The Finally Fixed It!

Updated Review, June, 2024: So, Atari launched this in an absolutely abhorrent state. Clearly ripped abandonware, not even fully functional. It was just a mess. However, to their credit, the folks at Atari heard our cries of foul and endeavored to fix these two games: Gunship - Less crash-prone (It used to crash after the third mission, but others have now reported getting well past that). I've only gotten a few missions in before dying -- this game is TOUGH -- but had no crashes. This one still has copy protection, but they now include a reference sheet to get past it. Gunship 2000 - Now the final CD-ROM version with no copy protection. Also includes the expansion, and all the documentation, including both manuals (original and expansion), and now has proper DOSBox settings. Gunship 2000 is my favorite flight sim ever, and now it's at a state in which I can recommend it to people. It's also very playable with a gamepad! So yeah, I feel now I can recommend this pack. If you can get over the old graphics, I feel Gunship 2000 has so, so much to offer for the flight sim fan. It's my favorite helicopter sim and flight sim of all time because of its sheer variety. Please check it out, and thank you for reading. ----------------------------------------- Original Review, February, 2024: Gunship 2000 is my favorite flight sim ever. It has everything and I love it so much, so it PAINS me to give this version a one-star review, but I must. The GOG version of this game is 469.07, which is an older version of the game whick still has issues with digital sound and numerous crashes. The CD version of the game -- which is the last version I believe -- is 496.085. This is the version I have and play regularly. So again, it looks like the folks at the publisher here ripped an older, abandonware version that isn't even the final, stable CD-ROM version. The game also doesn't include all the documentation, such as the copy protection codes and documentation for the expansion. Do not buy this version at this time. Seek out the CD version if possible.

Broken Release ... Fix it for 5/5

As a game at the time, Gunship 2000 with its Islands and Ice was perhaps the best helicopter sim of the 90s (fans of Janes may disagree, but for me, this was much more playable) Unfortunately the GOG release is broken: - It uses an old version of the game which crashes - Whilst the Islands and Ice expansion is included in the game, the docs (including copy protection code sheet) are not included, so if you use the patch (available from the Patches Scrolls) to bring it up to the correct version, then you can't get past the copy protection screen If GOG fix this, then you are getting a very playable mix of action and realism helicopter sim featuring a dynamic campaign system and 4 theatres of operation. Until then, stick with Enemy Engaged Apache vs Havoc and EE Comanche vs Hokum on GOG (and get the EECH AllMods from EECH online) as the best helicopter sim with dynamic campaigns. But I would love the nostalgia of playing GS2000 with Islands and Ice ... as it is, I've wasted 8 quid on a dud.

copied from abandonware sites. Lazy.

Do NOT buy until they clean up their act. Game copied from compromised abandonware site. Lazy publishers should provide a copy from the CD version or legit files. Another LAZY RELEASE after they did a similar thing with Harrier Jump Jet - no manual there even though the community provided the manual for them. How lazy are you, publishers?

Gunship 2000 updated to 469.085

Our criticism has been heard. The most advanced 16 bit Gunship Sim was updated to the last version that was available with the CD version. It's now version 469.085, it includes the expansion and runs faster than before on 6000 cycles in DOSBox. Nicely done!

It crashes

The game loads up and then kicks you out. Every single time. DosBox runs, then the system kicks you back to windows as soon as you hit "continue"
