Gunship!

No issues so far in Windows 7 64 (why I never use Windows 10 for retro gaming). Good helicopter sim with realistic and arcade flight models depending on your mood. I took off a star for no in-game control options so you have to go to a "custom.ini" file in the "data" folder and change some settings there. I am one of those players that likes reverse pitch control and you have to do that in that file. Read up on those control settings in the "readme.txt" file in the main game folder. Also, make sure to hit the "Q" key to quickly pull up the keyboard controls until you memorize them. Overall, I think I am going to have fun with this as I missed it when it came out. The graphics really show their age with the flat trees and murky textures, but it still holds up in the atmosphere department. I highly recommend you keep the game at a 4:3 aspect ratio as 16:9 looks too stretched for my taste. Some games can get away with it, but not this one imo. I really do hope GOG can get their hands on "Apache: Air Assault" from Gaijin Entertainmentit one day. One the best helicopter sims for the PC to this day.

Downloaded fine, but when initialised to play, i get a blank screen and no audio ?

Easy to fly and get into, but rather lacklustre overall. Only Eastern Europe scenery, no varied world locations like in many other Microprose sims. Poor variety of unit types in the game. Graphics rather basic / ugly looking in some respects. Is this the same graphics engine used in M1 Tank Platoon 2 I ask myself! Once again though, GOG seem to be only hosting the weakest fare from Microprose's old catalogs! The UI is terrible also! Not much really positive to say about it, except it has a mission editor, that always gets a thumbs up from me!

Loved this game when it first came out, so I was happy to see it finally arrive at GOG. So far for me, it has worked right out of the box (I'm running win 10 and have a joystick). Another reviewer mentioned to tweek the .ini file for the joystick - good advice. I have a Thrustmaster T16000 and HOTAS throttle - the game read my throttle only (which has a thumb style joystick on it) so I used that on the 1st go. The manual and Keyboard reference card are included with the game as PDF files in the main folder so be sure to review these before jumping in. There's tutorial videos / flights included as well. Overall, untill they get their hands on Janes Apache Longbow, this is my new (old) go-to "fun" sim for helos.
