Relaxing Game

As I have aged (mid 30s) I find myself playing more relaxed games for after work and Grow is fantastic for a chilled out game session. The world is very beautiful, the animals are cute. The people could be better but not as bizzare as My Time At Portia. The main gameplay consists of upkeep of a small 'world area'. Growing plants and weeding etc. (There's a nice growing element which I won't spoil but makes it rather fun!) Then using a magic currency to purchase buildings for a district that people move in to. I haven't played too long and feel like I have probably seen everything the game has but it is good. I would suggest not to blitz through it though as I imagine you could 'complete' it within a week. I would also like to see more content for customisation but don't believe that will happen. Although on the plus side every NPC in your district can be customised to a certain degree. :) I am having a blast though and the characters and little surprises are great. (I'd suggest not getting too many spoilers on characters etc from reviews or videos) All in all a good & fun, slow paced sim which, while it does seem complete, could do with a little more content/QOL. Ps. Coppertop is rad.

Good game

Pros: Relaxing game. No enemies. Simple mechanics. Good graphics. Good price. Cons: World build have to many fases. Menu interface is bad, you have to use the mouse wheel or keyboard number to select the tools. Tasks take too much time and are repetetive. Tips: Build perfect worlds as soons as you can (search online for the recepies). You dont need to have 100 hapiness to advance we need just 91% or 98%. You dont need to interact with animals to the world progress. To increase production get only 7 level or above people and just upgrade the building, 1 level 7 guy produce more than 2 level 6. To get rid of a citezen, fire him and force him leave the house.

*sigh* The game's growing on me.

This game plays more pleasantly then it really should because it has many little faults. Such as basic actions/animations like chopping a tree or hammering a rock are kinda fucked. All mechanics the game has seem to lack any kind of depth. Some townspeople faces look just wrong, creepy wrong, something also feels off about their animations. Little to no clothing options at the start and the starting clothes look so bad I'd rather run around in my underwear (and you play as either a young boy or girl so this to is er... *cough*). Every time you open your task book you have to look at that creepy books face, and you'll be opening it a lot. The game will NEVER quit bugging you about every little thing every day. The story is boring and just won't shut up. Some aspects of the game are never properly explained. Etc... But, like I stated, the game is growing on me, the more I play it the more I enjoy it despite all its many flaws and annoyances. I think its because even though the gameplay is pretty brain dead you do get the feeling you are always accomplishing something. You may not be able to choose what seeds to grow but everything that you grow happens in stages before your eyes. Getting rid of weeds and rubble may be useless busy work but the world does slowly change for the better and becomes more beautiful step by step. There's nothing deep with how you build up the town but you have a good amount of freedom with it and there's a lot of customizable options for the buildings to unlock and everything you place down benefits you in some small way. The game overall has a cute and pleasant look to it. While this game certainly needs more polish, playing it is quite pleasant despite its many issues, if you want a braindead farming/city management + a little bit of exploring/puzzles game to play then you can do a lot worse then this one. Just give it time, it takes a while for the game to get going.

Super open world adventure/exploration

Perfect for flower pickers, people who want to look for rare bugs and fish, explore a beautifully designed world and it's delightful character creation. Like spending idle time restoring nature and trading trinkets and items with villagers that move into your town? The achievements presented in the game provide plenty to do. The town is yours, if you're into that sort of thang.

(Nonfunctional) Cottage Cozy for Adults

I bought this game for my kids and it is definitely not for kids. It is not for kids. It is full of complex text like "apprentice alchemist" and "effervescent" and complex "Where's the guide?" mechanics which is fine for a young adult, but they're too busy proving they're cool and edgy to play a game this twee, and little kids are left confused. This sort of game seems mostly aimed at grownups who want to revisit a simpler charm, and for that, it seems fine. It's cute, it's easy enough to control, and the circumstances are non-confrontational, and there's even a third gender or the option for facial hair on ladies, for the sort of adults that feel more comfortable with a game like that. Setting aside that this game wasn't suited for my children, it also wasn't suited for my computer. It burns up the graphics card to the point where the computer shuts off, even though this computer has no trouble handling the typical AAA game. So optimization is sufficiently bad that what should play on a potato makes a high end computer struggle. So I'm not really sure who the target audience for this game is? Millennials who like gardening but also have $5000 computers? I'd ask for a refund, but I got it on such a deep discount that it feels like more hassle than its worth. My kids are better off with Minecraft.
