Description
Graveyard Keeper is the most inaccurate medieval cemetery management sim of all time. Build and manage your own graveyard, and expand into other ventures, while finding shortcuts to cut costs. Use all the resources you can find. After all, this is a game about the spirit of capitalism, and doing whatever it takes to build a thriving business. And it’s also a love story.

  • Face ethical dilemmas. Do you really want to spend money on that proper burger meat for the witch-burning festival, when you have so many resources lying around?
  • Gather valuable materials and craft new items. Expand your Graveyard into a thriving business. Help yourself - gather the valuable resources scattered across the surrounding areas, and explore what this land has to offer.
  • Quests and corpses. These dead bodies don't need all those organs, do they? Why not grind them up and sell them to the local butcher? Or you can go on proper quests, you roleplayer.
  • Explore mysterious dungeons. No medieval game would be complete without those! Take a trip into the unknown, and discover new alchemy ingredients -- which may or may not poison a whole bunch of nearby villagers.

its really good

as of November 11 of 2018 the game is good. i bought it right before holloween and have atlease 20 hours so far and its been nothing but enjoyable. the story is compelling enough that i want to know what happens next. the quests for the most focus what you should be doing to progress, but you can ignore all of it until you decide to get to them. and there is a ton of content and with all the different ways you can go about making money and improving your graveyard its yet to feel stale and i still have more than half the techs still to unlock. the pacing feels fine, as soon as i get the hang of a mechanic or new work station im about ready to unlock something else. but its not all good. you will need wiki. the game is not great at explaining its nuances of what items do, where that new work station you bought the tech for can actually be built, things like that. and i have to agree with other reviews on the corpse system, i have no idea what that text box was trying to tell me and i know mostly what to do with corpses. though what makes a corpse good to bury besides having no red skulls or whats the difference between 4 or 6 or 8 green skulls is ive no idea. in conclusion, watch a beginners guide and use wiki if you find yourself scratching your head. after i watched a video i settled into it and its been great so far.

3 stars. Sad but I must

I never finished it. Visually game looks fantastic to me. Game's world is intriguing. It has mysteries and it's own good humor But ohhhhh. soooo much work. And not just work. You must do this work IN TIME. If "oh my, it's to hard to do ALL this work, I'd rather go live my own life, it's actually easier and more joy" was game developer's target – well, hit is 100% precise. Otherwise – this is not game, this is very pretty "pointless hard grind simulator".

Intriguing but ultimately boring grind

I just finished the game and I shouldn't have, though mostly I regret the time spent rather than the money. The game starts out interesting, the premise that your character somehow gets transported to a weird medieval-fantasy like world intrigues. You are quickly introduced to preparing bodies and managing your graveyard, which seems like a fun change of pace. Fast forward a few hours and you will have amassed multiple fetch quests that are far down several different tech trees, most of which have nothing to do with your graveyard and turn the game into more of a really boring farming sim. Keeping the Graveyard is at least remotely interesting, the quality of the grave being determined by both how nice the decorations are and how well you prepared the body. However, this also gets boring far before you're even close to the end of the game. Eventually you'll get a church to upgrade as well, which gives you very little freedom because the spots for the furniture are all but predetermined. If you're lucky you get to choose between two or three spots to swap like-sized pieces around. And that's how the game goes on, grind for technology points and materials, chasing and ultimate goal that basically requires you to complete most of the fetch quests that the NPCs gave you. And in the end there is very little pay-off, the ending is just as vague and feels just as unfinished as many other aspects of the game. Another thing that feels unfinished are the dialogues. There are a lot of you/your/you're errors in the sentences and other instances of plain broken English, way more than one can forgive. There's also some instances of "code" being left in the in-game dialog that was clearly meant to be replaced by an icon, though I can't say how much the past few patches have helped with that. There are some genuinely funny moments here though. The game toys with the medieval setting and sets up a couple of good jokes that way. They're just buried under hours of grinding.

I see dead people!

First, I was hesitant as of all the bad reviews of the game, but I finally gave it a shot. After playing it for a few hours: I don't get all the bad reviews and can't agree with them. The game does not explain much, mostly you have to find out for yourself. There is a few intro-quests, but they don't cover the full potential of the game. This leads to a lot of - "Oh, okay...! So that's how it works." - which can be kind of rewarding. - "Oh, okay...! So I have to do something else first..!" - which can be kind of depressing. So you got a lot of ups and downs you're going through while playing this game. It appears easy to do certain things in the first place, but there's sort of a chain reaction you need to build up first, before everything falls into place. So, if you keep up and don’t let yourself loose patience you might have fun playing it. If you want short term results and progressing, you better shouldn’t. As everyone is comparing this to Stardew Valley: YES, if you liked Stardew Valley, you’ll probably like this one, too. One hint: You might want to google "graveyard keeper wiki" and tab into the wiki every now and then. It might help keeping track since it is easy to get lost in building that "chain reaction".

A fine indie game

Graveyard Keeper is a really enjoyable little game that has a somewhat limited scope, but gives you a lot of freedom within those limits. The game starts with your character being involved in a car accident. The next time you open your eyes, you wake up in the outskirts of a strange medieval hamlet full of colorful characters like a cheeky talking skull, a communist donkey and many others. You find out that apparently you are the keeper of the local graveyard, and your job is to get rid of the dead bodies. Your goal is to somehow get back to your actual life, and to your beloved. In order to achieve this, you'll have to do a lot of things for a lot of people - this includes learning how to farm, decorate a church, mine and process ore, and of course deal with corpses. You can even fight monsters in a dungeon, but that really isn't where the game shines. All of this may sound very grindy and "fetch-questy" - and it is - but the game manages to make the grind fun, at least that's how I felt. There's a good amount of humor in the story, some of it may be a bit dark for some people's taste. I took my sweet time to stop and smell the corpses, and the game gave me 50 really enjoyable hours. While the replay value is very limited, I consider the game a positive surprise and the money well spent. 4/5.
