You have torn down the magical barrier and released the prisoners of the Mine Valley. Now the former criminals of the forests and mountains are causing trouble around the capital of Khorinis. The town militia is powerless due to their low amount of force–outside of the town, everyone is helpless against the attacks of the bandits.
Over 100 thrilling missions on the different settings
A detailed, lively game environment with over 500 individual characters (each with their own daily routine)
The player determines the course of the story himself
Fight with more than 200 different weapons and magical spells
Played this game ... probably 20 times from start to finish. Heck, i still play it regularly every now and then. Combat system is awesome, plot is awesome, factions are awesome .... it is a brilliant game. I have always considered Gothic series to be an adult version of Elder Scrolls. Or Elder Scrolls to be kiddy version of Gothic. Because you can not beat smoking weed in a brothel before you go to a duel in town for the thieves guild key :).
Do yourselves a favor and hit this bad boy up. You will regret it for a little while and then it will change. Once you smash the black troll, after a while and loot him, you will love it. Once you kill your first dragon, you will not be able to put it down :).
Enjoy
I am immensely surprised by this game. Many of my friends hated it, but it's always interested me as a cult classic.
At first, this game annoyed me to death. There are just so many seemingly clunky quirks. The menu was awful. The controls? After a few deaths and not figuring out how to attack, I had to look it up. Looting was a labor. However, then I decided to read the manual. I realized all this stuff was actually brilliant because it fits in its own system. It's designed to work together and while it might be different it just works.
Once I got over the differences, and there is a learning curve, the game really opened up. I could explore and I started to choose my battles. I even started wasting some of the more difficult enemies before the game intended me too. The game worlds is immense, somewhat linear, and the graphics are meh. But the real beauty of the world is that it all fits. The graphics fit, the placement of characters and enemies.
Exploration not only happened while walking through an area. Return trips always felt like I was discovering something new. A cleverly dead man in a corner? A hidden weapon stuck in a wall. Enemies too powerful (or those you couldn't figure out how to kill) reveal large new areas to explore.
The voice acting is also great. I expected some half-done stuff, but I never found a time where I hated them.
The story is simple but complex and I feel you get to understand some of the characters. Which is good for a game like this. I hate to compare this game to the Elder Scrolls, but... I never cared much for the stories and characters in those games. It's always just be super powerful and filch as much junk so you can sell it elsewhere. I think those games could learn a thing or two about making an open world game from Gothic.
Anyway, read the manual. Don't give up. And for heavens sakes, sheathe your weapon before exploring so you don't think there is nothing to loot.
G2 is imho one of the greatest games ever created. It features a extremely dense gameworld, populated by believable folks and animals that react on your actions. Animals have special behaviour and don't just seem to hang around, waiting to be killed by the player (they even hunt one another in some cases). NPCs have believable schedules (for example working during the day, go to the inn in the evening and sleep in the night), the don't forget your crimes and help you out sometimes. The story itself isn't too great in my opinion - it's rather random. But it's filled with memorable characters, a whole bunch of cool subquests and very enjoyable moments. The main quality of the game is the great mixture of free roaming - which is limited only by the brutal difficulty in combat - and density of events and content. It's not like in these other free roaming games, where you get the impression of a big world without much worth do discover in it. In G2 you'll find many hidden treasures and your explorer's lust will be rewarded kindly by the game. I strongly recommend the game to anyone who can stand against the somewhat brutal difficulty, the a bit clunky controls and the aged - but in my opinion still beautiful - graphics. If you look for a game with deep interactions, a dense and believable gameworld full of immersion, many possibilities and a lot of exploration fun - then search no longer - the island of Khorinis is awaiting you!
Whoever did this repack, messed with controls settings badly and you can't even return original controls. Keys remaping won't help eather. They completely broke action keys settings. Combat system is completely broken because of that. Grab this on on Steam instead. Steam version works flawlessly on win10/11 with originaly intended and working controls settings.
