My favourite RPG
To be honest, it is really difficult to write a honest review, since it's a childhood game that I associate playing with my mom. So there is a strong emotional connection to this game. -- Thinks I like -- Story: The story is simple. Orc vs human war. King is nearly defeated. King lays hope in last plan, by imprisoning people to work for him. Plan goes wrong. Prison colony pressure king in only giving him resource in trade for goods. You get thrown into this prison colony and have to find a way out of it. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is dark, grim and harsh, but not so much, that it feels soulless. Especially the colors are rather dark in comparison to the other RPGs, but are not grey or washed out. The general color palette consists of warm colors, which I really like. Gameplay: You start as a no name, that barely wield a weapon. Your goal is to gain reputation, so that you can join a faction to get access to new abilities and progress in the story. What I like, is that you really feel your character progression. Dialogue: The dialogue is goofy, cheeky and what me and my mom liked the most about this game. At least in the German version. -- Thinks I don't like -- Controls: The controls are definitely one of the biggest challenges for new players. Eventually you get used to it, but there are still very stiff and clumsy. Especially in combat with multiple enemies. Sexism: Women are reduced to housewifes and slaves. In my opinion a missed opportunity for some strong amazon women. :3 Missing content: While playing the game, you can feel that things are missing or not finished. So, I recommend playing it with a content mod. Skills: There are a lot of cool abilities, sadly a lot of them are not good implemented into the game. In general the skill system is very rudimentary in comparison to other more complex RPGs. In conclusion: You should go into the game with an open mind and patience. It's like a raw diamond. Pretty, but simple and rough.
