War has been waged across the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcish hordes invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a lot of ore to forge enough weapons, should his army stand against this threat. Whoever breaks the law in these darkest of times is sentenced to serve in the giant penal colony of Khorinis, mining the so much needed ore.
The whole area, dubbed "the Colony", is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometers diameter, sealing off the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier can be passed from the outside in – but once inside, nobody can escape. The barrier was a double-edged sword - soon the prisoners took the opportunity and started a revolt. The Colony became divided into three rivaling factions and the king was forced to negotiate for his ore, not just demand it.
You are thrown through the barrier into this prison. With your back against the wall, you have to survive and form volatile alliances until you can finally escape.
Features include:
One of the biggest RPGs with over 50 hours of gameplay
A large variety of weapons and spells for your character
A living world where people go to work, sleep, eat and fight to survive
I am a huge fan of the Gothic games and this game is a very nice piece of the series. Since it's from the begining of 3D games it has some flaws. (thats why I gave 4/5) Unfortunetly it crashes quite often and the control is very awkward for what we get used to. (well I have to say for the second time I finished the game I get amazing in it :D ) But the story is very cool the music is a master piece, and it got that special (dark) "Gothic mood". Totally a must play!
I played this game 4 times and it's my favorite rpg ever. The storm is realy deep and filled with mistery and evil. The controls are old school but you can get used to them in no time. The game takes about 35h with some of the side quest and exploration. Buy it and you won't regret it. I bought it when was originly lunched and now.
One of the better RPG's out there. Incredibly long though. Which in itself isn't bad, but several times I thought I had come to the end only to discover differently, BIG TIME!

This is one of those games that either you love... or you just don't get. It's got a very open ended world that allows you to go anywhere and do anything. However, you can quickly lose sight of your main objectives. Some fans consider it more of an alive fantasy environment to interact with than an actual game with a plot. In game characters have lives, history, daily routines, even celebrate certain days of the years with traditional rituals and decorations.
