Description
YOU’RE IN CHARGE
Design, Plan, Build and Manage every aspect of your golf course from the ground up. Place every structure, every tee, and every hole. Manipulate the very earth itself and forge the perfect golf course. It’s all up to you! Just don’t go bankrupt.
BUILD IT, AND THEY WILL COME
200 Persistent golfers make frequent visits to your course, evolving and growing in skill. Over time they will develop a long term opinion of your course. Keep them happy enough and they’ll turn into prestigious members, netting you more money. Or drive them to madness with a golf gauntlet nightmare!
DATA MINE GOLFERS MINDS
Golfers have over 100 different thoughts, ranging from “I have to pee” to “The green is too large”. Seriously, who would ever complain about the green being too large? Peer into the minds of your visitors, seeing exactly where a thought took place, giving you critical feedback on how to tinker and tune your golf course over time.
GOLF HAS A NEMESIS … WEEDS
Fight off an infestation of weeds, bent on turning your beautiful creation into a disgusting knotted mess of ill-tempered foliage. Build an army of drone workers, or employ powerful defensive turrets to keep your course clean and tidy.
GOLF OF TOMORROW, AND BEYOND
Build crazy devices like fans, bumpers, launchers, teleporters, and more! These devices can make or break your golf course, allowing you to manipulate the physics of the ball itself. Turn your course into a money making machine of fine tuned perfection. Or a ruthless meat grinder of frustration and injury.

I have been trying it out with the default difficulty settings but there are numerous values that can be changed so you can tune it to your liking which is great. There's enough management to it that it's light and fun without being a total sandbox. Designing holes and seeing them played is a lot of fun and you can play on them too but the emphasis is on building and managing.
I have only played a few hours so far so I'll probably come back and rewrite this review with more detail at some point but I wanted to post something since no one else has. It seems a bit undervalued in my opinion and I hope it does well -- it's clear the devs put a lot of love into it.
Beautiful game that plays perfectly with no bugs. Absolutely the spiritual successor to Sid Meier's SimGolf but is way more customisable, great terrain-editing tools and superb feedback in-game about happiness etc. I am only 2 hours in but I will be sinking way more time into this game, it's amazing, great job Dev.
Developer clearly did their homework on similar past games so it is very easy to get into. You can build a typical golf course, a futuristic one, or a mix of the two. I really enjoy the variety and feel this is a GEM of a game that's a lot of fun to play. I have a few minor gripes. The way the paths work and the foot bridge is just awful and ugly. The game lacks a little bit of charm that something like Simgolf had, mainly in the golfers and the challenges to your manager character. The tournaments arent nearly as interesting either. But these are very minor gripes. I purchased this on Steam not GOG, but Ive sunk a good 60 hours into it so far. It's pretty awesome. Please buy it so the developer can add a few things in the future. Without your purchase it just won't be worth it for them and I definitely want some more content for the game.
Golftopia suffers from a very messy interface, lack of variety or replayability, and lots of irritating little gameplay quirks. And although on its surface it is visually flashy and exciting, with its many gamey futuristic light-up doodads, it conspicuously lacks the personality that made its obvious inspiration, SimGolf, so enjoyable.
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring doesn't play a note at a time as you place down fairway. You can't reproduce the cast of your favorite TV show as sims that visit your golf course. You don't hear sims excitedly shouting "Boo-ya-boo! Yeah-hah! Ah, hahahaha!" when they make a great shot. Upbeat guitar music doesn't abruptly play every 15 minutes or so on a crowded course because two of your golfer sims just got married or decided to write a book together or something. Mostly, in Golftopia, nothing really happens.
And there is a lot of nothing happening in Golftopia, because the membership and cost requirements for upgrading your course enough to finally construct eighteen holes involve quite a few hours of just...waiting...for golfers to upgrade their memberships, and for revenue to rack up. Messing with the difficulty settings can ameliorate this somewhat, but only so much. It doesn't help that the fastest game speed setting is still quite slow.
There are no scenarios and not a great deal of variety when generating a random island to build on. Something in particular that I found very frustrating and puzzling was how nearly every hole, even ones which golfers were previously very satisfied with, eventually provoked complaints of "over-automation", or being too easy. In Golftopia, you cannot make a good hole and just let it be. You will have to constantly tweak every hole on the course, making them more and more difficult, or else face issues meeting the requirements to unlock the privilege to build more holes.
And no, you cannot reasonably build a course without using the game's futuristic elements.
+ Great number of golfers, especially with the most recent update
+ Most recent update also changed the number of items that you can build, which improves how many food and drink stands that you can build, which was a small issue before as well.
+ Extremely easy to make courses with the course designer, and the golfers are extremely responsive to changes to your course and adapt their playstyles to match.
+ As you level up your course, you unlock more items so there's a lot of progress to be made as you play.
- There's a lot of grinding without making changes to the settings to allow more income to be made per day and to unlock things between the days.
- The characters are sometimes not easy to satisfy; sometimes impossibly so.
- The game is lacking in a variety of additional decorations and could improve on the number of them to improve the course in the future.
