Underwhelming

I bought this game because another reviewer compared it to Civilization, and I thought it'd be a neat spin on building an empire. Nothing could be further from what this game actually is. Upon starting a new game, you get to design the look and feel of the Diety you are wanting to be. That is 90% of the freedom of choice given to you by this game. Your city placements are all done for you, and you have linear movements to adjacent cities you conquer to progress. You can have up to 7 apostles spreading word of yourself. While you can have 7, you can only ask 3 to do things on any given turn. So 4 people are just standing around doing nothing. I thought this # would increase as you go further in, but it's static the entire time. The game starts you off with 3, which you use to do the battles. You add more to your recruitment pool every 20 days. While they can't die, I certainly found myself passing dead turns to be able to recruit more upgraded people because the starting units are quickly power creeped. There are basically 2 kinds of attacks in the game, physical or magical. And there's a defender for each type. There are also 6 "attributes" that are both strong and weak against another. You cannot control any of your people during the fight, so the most control you have over them is at the time of choosing their class, determining if they're physical or magical, and what attribute they'll have. Overall, 80% of the game is watching these little mini battles that you have no control over, hoping your people do well. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. They don't 'die' but they lose faith if their HP reaches 0, which means you can't have them do anything for several turns. Also, they age. As they get older, they lose some power. This encourages you to cycle your apostles (again tied to recruiting every 20 days). You can later train what abilities they have, but not what they use in combat, as it will pick any of them to use any given turn.

Watch the game play itself

I thought this would have been a god game like Black & White or Populous but it couldn't be farther from those games. This game has (from what I can tell) very little interaction a player can do. Perhaps this was the developer's intention to make a game where as a God you have limited impact on the world. However as a player, you want to have something to do, but unfortunately the combat is just a set of random actions in which you have little ability to influence. The game looks good but the underlying mechanics remind me of Megaman Battle Chip Challenge.

It's as city-building as Pokemon

I backed this game, expecting somehting akin to Black&White, or at least some resemble of minion-mangement (like: Constructor, Rimworld, Kenshi, Cultist Simulator, or Darkest Dungeon). However, the current game has nothing to do with "simulation" or "strategy." If we call this game simulation/strategy, we should also call Finfal Fantasy and Dragon Quest simulation game. There's no building or economy, they just mask skill tree as 'building' that you can only place when you level up. There's no differentiate between each type of gods or believe system. You can pick whatever you like and it's only flavor text, all good/evil path use the same set of buildings and heroes and abilities. Your 'pokemons' are useless most of the time because you can put at max 3 of them to do something in a turn, and the rest just sit there doing nothing like sideline-player in football. There's no management to be done becuase there's no economy, you get money from 'dungeon raid' or 'farming raid.' In short, it's like Darkest Dungeon, but without any thing to do in the town except upgrading your weapon/skill and click on new randomly generated unit. And the dungeon has only 3 type of enemies template that deal 'rock-paper-sissor' element damages.

Not what I expected

A lot of doing nothing and very restricted in your choices and changing the fate of your world. Wouldn't recommend

Finally a good god game

I have been serahching for a good game of this genre for quite some time. For now the game is still in devolopement, and it is still a bit rought, but is fully playable. I miss the lack of presence of other civilization style, but out of that I don't miss anything. I will keep watchong the evolution of this title.
