Before man climbed down from the trees to shop in megastores and drink cappuccino, before the Earth wadded itself into a cool blue ball, before the Moon even existed, there was the Island. The Island, a massive fragment of a long-lost planet, hurtling blindly through space. Upon the surface of this paradise wanders the giant, Kabuto. Little does Kabuto know that the Island was home to others before him. In the oceans, there dwells a matriarchal race called the Sea Reapers. In their pride, they created Kabuto, as a defense against intruders. But Kabuto became conscious of himself, his loneliness, his pain - and he went berserk.
Space castaways, the Meccs piloted their ship through space, looking for their missing friends. If you haven’t guessed already, they ended up on the Island. Faced with yet another unscheduled layover while on their way to Planet Majorca, the Meccs decide to make the best of their temporary home. Just their luck - the natives are already embroiled in their own little war, and the Mecc visitors are most unwelcome!
Meccaryns... Sea Reapers... Kabuto... One island isn’t big enough for the three of them.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Only saves after missions, however building missions remember your building state (this was not obvious to me at first). Super fun, but don't be afraid to seek out on-line help if you get stuck. The save the smarties, for example, is very difficult.
When it was ok to make comedy offensive <3 this game is one of the funniest games to date.
An absolute CLASSIC <3 <3 <3
Everyone should own this in their collection!
The one thing I remember about Giants more than anything else is the brilliant humour. I've now lost my boxed copy, sadly, so I'm sorely tempted to pick up again what was one of my favourite games. The computer I used to play this on struggled to keep up the pace back then with what was once a fairly visually impressive game. Large expansive levels with towering structures and plenty of combat, even if it was slightly weak at times. Simply, if you have never played this before, buy it, and even if you have, consider going back to this wonderful game again.
This is sadly one game on the long list of 'Should have been successful'.
The game itself is fairly average stuff, good but not great. The game is split up into three sections each with a different control system. The first is a team based tech. squad, starting with one member then increasing as you progress through the game. So far so guns and rocket packs.
Then the games control passes to a different character, this time alone and based around magical powers.
In the final section the game twists again, this time you control a giant (of the title) on a larger scale than the others.
The multiplayer section is also reasonable, offering a mix of the singleplayer groups. Such as three-for-all with every team being represented or just two sides one-on-one. The first two teams revolve around building a base and the last a more of a free-roamer.
If that was all there is to this game it would rate around 3-4 stars however the game is broken up by the most hilarious cut-scenes. Documenting the journey each group takes.
One of my favourite parts is probably when the second player is being guided by an NPC:
"Here we are, Blind Man's Volcano."
"I don't see a volcano?"
"What do you expect the poor man was blind!"
