Description
Before man climbed down from the trees to shop in megastores and drink cappuccino, before the Earth wadded itself into a cool blue ball, before the Moon even existed, there was the Island. The Island, a massive fragment of a long-lost planet, hurtling blindly through space. Upon the surface of this paradise wanders the giant, Kabuto. Little does Kabuto know that the Island was home to others before him. In the oceans, there dwells a matriarchal race called the Sea Reapers. In their pride, they created Kabuto, as a defense against intruders. But Kabuto became conscious of himself, his loneliness, his pain - and he went berserk.

Space castaways, the Meccs piloted their ship through space, looking for their missing friends. If you haven’t guessed already, they ended up on the Island. Faced with yet another unscheduled layover while on their way to Planet Majorca, the Meccs decide to make the best of their temporary home. Just their luck - the natives are already embroiled in their own little war, and the Mecc visitors are most unwelcome!

Meccaryns... Sea Reapers... Kabuto... One island isn’t big enough for the three of them.
  • Three unique races, each with a totally different gameplay experience
  • Bawdy humor that will keep you laughing throughout the game
  • One of the most original games ever created

I want more levels :(

So, there are some points, why the game is not as good, as i could be. One is, some missions are very long and very hard, and sometimes you have to play them for many times. You cant save in a mission, so if you want to do something else, you must first finish the current mission or restart it the next time. Not soo good. Ah and this: The Kabute campaign doesn't have any story. Very bad, because the first two have funny dialogs and so. But overall, it is quiet funny. You have these three different characters, each of them fun in their own way. And some dialogs are really funny. And although the basebuild-missions are very long and often boring (you have to walk over the whole islands many times) its fun to see the base growing. Overall the game is very diversified and many of the parts are quiet fun. So when i finished, i really wanted to play much more levels, which is a good sign, i think.

Ahead of it's time

It's an unfortunate event when a game like this comes out and the people at large aren't yet prepared for it's arrival. Giants did a wonderful job of blending multiple genres into an entertaining and mechanically sound video game. From the quirky characters, RTS/Adventure aspects, and at the time, cutting edge graphics. This title more then delivered. That's none even counting the multilayer, which was epic! Had Giants been released today, where genre overlap and convergence is more common place, it would more likely then not succeed. Especially with a market place no longer demanding games fit neatly into a predefined box.

Ahead of it's time

What a game! Not only full of brilliant humor and wit, not only the one of the most original and colorful game-worlds, but a gameplay years ahead everything of it's time. Definitely one of my favorite games. Timmy!!!!!

Worth a go

It has some pretty good gameplay and also some very funny dialogue. Overall the game was quite enjoyable and varied, with the player able to play three unique individuals during the SP campaign. However the third act of the game is a little lackluster to be honest. It lacks the witty dialogue from the previous 2 acts and the action itself is a little misplaced. It feels like a bit of a cop out, story-wise, to enable the 3rd perspective. The story itself doesn't take itself that seriously of course, but it could've been handled a little better. The RTS elements I thought were also a little problematic. The resource gathering can get a little tedious, and worst of all if you die you respawn with your base intact but the enemy threat level diminished. The RTS scenarios are typically such that the opponent steadily attacks the player with greater and greater forces, but when the player dies the computer goes back to square one and attacks with minimal amounts again. Also the battles themselves are a little bland, would've been nice to see a few more varied elements involved. The Reapers for example have more variety than is represented in the RTS battles. Most of the boss battles were pretty easy as well. Though that's typical of many games. On the whole, it was pretty good and worth the six bucks if nothing else.
