Put your sword to the test in Ghostrunner Demo here
Ghostrunner is a hardcore FPP slasher packed with lightning-fast action, set in a grim, cyberpunk megastructure. Climb Dharma Tower, humanity’s last shelter, after a world-ending cataclysm. Make your way up from the bottom to the top, confront the tyrannical Keymaster, and take your revenge.
The streets of this tower city are full of violence. Mara the Keymaster rules with an iron fist and little regard for human life.
As resources diminish, the strong prey on the weak and chaos threatens to consume what little order remains. The decisive last stand is coming. A final attempt to set things right before mankind goes over the edge of extinction.
As the most advanced blade fighter ever created, you’re always outnumbered but never outclassed. Slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialized techniques to
prevail.
One-hit one-kill mechanics make combat fast and intense. Use your superior mobility (and frequent checkpoints!) to engage in a never-ending dance with death fearlessly.
Ghostrunner offers a unique single-player experience: fast-paced, violent combat, and an original setting that blends science fiction with post-apocalyptic themes. It tells the story of a world that has already ended and its inhabitants who fight to survive.

the game is looking fantastic and I could not wait for a chance to play it but after 30 minutes and over 100 deaths i'm still stuck in the tutorial.
Certanly I'm not a skilled player but even using the Help Mode the game felt the same since the problems are the crazy reflexes you gotta have to dodge bullets.
If it ever gets a real Difficulty scale I will rewrite this review.
Ghostrunner is a movement based action game in which you use your katana and the environment around you to jump, slide and slash through levels set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. You are constantly moving around and standing still will almost certainly mean death. And dying is very common. Every single enemy can kill you in a single hit and they are ruthless, especially when facing groups of different types. But dying is part of the learning process and does not feel undeserved or frustrating - also because you respawn instantly and never far away (the checkpoints are actually really well done).
Graphically Ghostrunner looks beautiful, a very believable rendition of a futuristic city illuminated by the glow of neon lights. In addition the action on screen is supported by an outstanding soundtrack by Daniel Deluxe. It is a mix of electro and synthwave, providing a heart-pounding musical backdrop to the fast paced action. Extremely well done and already one of my personal favourites in my personal musci collection.
Yes I do recommend Ghostrunner, it is a fantastic video game (even though the story is a little bit prdictable). I would personally not call it hard, but there is certainly one bossfight that is extemely hard to get through (I died 250 times I think).
fast paced and unforgiving, this game doesn't hold your hand but rather invites you to meet the challenge. good graphics, runs well. controls are solid, mouse recommended. not too long, if you only want to play the normal mode. you can run even the gog version in linux through steams proton.
the story is kind of meh. i always feel that when it comes to the story, games should try to explain less. if you're a bland writer: less exposition, leave things to the imagination. hint at something and let the audience make it alive inside their heads. anyway, it's average stuff, definitely not terrible.
the developers mistake:
i deduct one star, because of the annoyance of the checkpoint being reset when you quit the game. you can try the same checkpoint a million times, but if you quit the game, you'll have to restart the entire level. it doesn't matter too much on the first play-through, but on hardcore it gets irritating as progress is more difficult and you'd rather take a brake without leaving the game on. in this game, "continue" means "restart last level". it's a clear oversight on their part, there really is no excuse for it.
first i thought i could keep playing after completion as i enjoy the extra challenge of the hardcore mode, but i'm not going to replay the entire level each time i start the game. what is this, the 80s? i guess i could run it on a virtual machine and suspend it to be able to continue.. OR maybe the devs should fix their game.
Excellent hack'n'slash platformer where I really got vibes from NES times. In this game you have to remember every single move you make, every single enemy and every flaw is your last one.
Cyberpunk atmosphere is one of the best I've ever felt, locations look gorgeous. The music really adds up to the atmosphere.
Hardcore mode (whick unlocks after completion of the game) is one of the most creative I've seen. It's not just New Game+ with uinlocked abilities. No, enemies from late game are now present from the very beginning. They are MUCH larger in numbers and they are located in a way to make you passing by as difficult as possible. Even some of the platforming sections are drastically changed! I had entirely diferent experience tearing through levels on hardcore and it was amazing
I strongly recommend this game if you want challenge (and more challenge if you're into hardcore mode) and want a really well made cyberpunk game
First and foremost, let me say that this game is definitely not for everyone, certainly not a limited-time, casual gamer. This is one of those games where you WILL die, a LOT. Get past that and the game is enjoyable, especially for those perfectionists that like to do things in an exact order.
The flow of the game is very smooth throughout all of those moves, jumps, and getting around. The animation is solid. Also, for the majority of the game, it is pretty open to how you approach a problem. You might have 2 or 3 paths but the order in which you do something is up to you, within reason.
If you are used to bumper jumpers like Mirror's Edge, then you'll like this. To me, I feel this is ME but where you can and are encouraged to kill your enemy instead of knocking them out. The time effect is great and the abilities are fairly smooth. Just put on the item that shows collectibles on the map and keep it there. Some of them I have literally zero idea of how to get, but that's part of the fun for map explorers such as myself.
Visually, GR is simply beautiful in all of its cyberpunk distopian, futuristic glory. RTX 3080 with ray-tracing enabled adds a bit of pretty accents all over. However, not having an RT-capable card does not mean in any way that the game is any less enjoyably beautiful. It is. The worlds are pleasing to look at with a nice mount of detail for the 3 microseconds I can look at it without having to concentrate on what I am doing. Therefore, slash first, admire second.
Lastly, the ONLY reason I give this 4 stars is due to the brevity of the game and the fact that I cannot give it a 4.5 rating. This is definitely a $20-30 game in terms of the quality versus length. The hard mode allows you to go back and play every level with a completely different set of enemies, end-game enemies on level 1 for instance. That said, take a chance, have a little patience, and enjoy yourself with this one.
