like 2D Portal but not like Portal

You could give this game 5 stars for creativity but I took off a star because it seemed like something was missing. You'll be tempted to call this a 2D version of Portal but it's better in some ways (more kinds of guns/portals) and not in others. What's missing is more of that Portal-like puzzle/level design that was so much fun in that game. Another thing I think this game needs is better enemies and a little more combat but that's just a personal preference. Regarding gateway gun usage, you'll really have to put an effort into wrapping your brain around what the other guns can do and how they can be used together especially the time-travel gun and the gravity gun. There are definitely some brilliant ideas in this game like the way you can see through the gateways and how you can buy puzzle solutions when you get stuck. So, who's this game for? It's for people who want to casually figure out platforming puzzles using portals in a 2d world while their brain melts from the strain of understanding time-travel. One final note. There should be a level editor with this game but I don't currently see any mention of it so I don't really know if it's available yet.

Knowing what to do VS Doing it

The first part of the game is pretty much what you expect from a combination of a platformer and Portal. The puzzles are well designed will make you think hard. And then you get the Time Gun. When you get the Time Gun the puzzles are still well designed but if you aren't a God at Platforming then executing the solutions will be infuriating. The Time Gun allows you to record a short amount of you gameplay so you can, say, hit two buttons at once, one with your previous gameplay and one with your current. However you will need to overlap 2,3,4, sometimes 5 recordings all over each other, meaning you need a degree of precision in planning, jumping, and timing that can be almost impossible. If you mess up at all you have to start it all over again. The solutions can be worked out. But completing them is another story. If you aren't a master at platforming, give this one a miss.

Portal Meets Super Metroid

This is one of the finest puzzle games ever made. If you're craving for the mind-bending puzzles of Portal get this game immediately. There isn't much of a story and the ending's a bit predictable. Also the final puzzle is WAY too hard. Also the soundtrack is stellar. Overall, a good game, worth playing for sure.

This will certainly make your head spin

Gateways from a first glance seems like your average 2D puzzle platformer, along many of its kin. The name itself also implies that it has quite a lot in common with Portals, where you can teleport from one place to another. Would that be sufficient for a 2D puzzle game? I'm not sure. Is that all this game has? Hell no! :D Gateways has some quite interesting gameplay puzzle mechanics, that can be tough to wrap your head around later on. Apart from your standard portal device, you also get to resize yourself, rotate the world, or create a portal through time and act alongside and work together with the actions of your past echoes! And later on, you get to use all of these at the same time to solve the puzzles laid out in front of you. Luckily, even though the main game is easy to complete in my opinion (apart from the last few puzzles where you get to use all devices at the same time), there is a way to load external, user made maps - and there is a map editor for Windows with which you can create your own. Overall, it's not exactly Braid-levels of excellence, but still pretty damn interesting and enjoyable.

nice..

This games sort-of like a 2D variation of Portal, its challenging and can be frustrating at times due to the ninja-like timing/precision needed in places & although sometimes you have thought of a solution.. its sometimes harder to pull-off than expected. I didn't get a great understanding of buttons needed.. i was told W = jump, R = look A & D are walk left/right and mouse places stuff.. which is all-good but i find using keyboard and mouse at same time can be rather awkward at times depending on what needs to be done (maybe im doing something wrong? or i have missed something?, i have no idea). The game reminds me of an old Arcade game, with the music and game-play which is pretty nice, the graphics are neat and well done and the game does play well (for me anyway). If your into hard puzzle platform games then this may be a game for you.
