Not nearly as good as the original

I'm a big fan of the original 1993 version of GK. I liked it even though I played on monochrome screen without sound. I liked the game for its atmosphere, good graphics and witty dialogues. For a die-hard fan of the original this remake is a joke, worse in all respects. The portraits are ugly and unconvincing. The voice acting is blah. Especially bad is the narrator's voice, which sounds like he/she is so upset having to speak it borders on agression. The soundtrack is worse, compared to 1993 midi version (with the exception of "All Saints" on Jackson Square. The backgrounds lack the gloom of their originals. There are unnecessary gameplay differences, like getting priest costume. I could not finish the remake even with hints and did not want to use a walkthrough, it says something. I would rather play the original one more time.

Lost in translation

I don't want to say this is a bad remake, rather it was a remake that didn't really need to happen. In the transition, you get better graphics, to be sure. But you loose some of the excellent voice acting, the original soundtrack, and some of the plot and game elements that made the original a classic. If you want the real experience, stick with the original version, if only to enjoy Tim Curry as Gabriel Knight.

Looks good but they ruined the game

ALL of the voice acting is redone. How the hell are you gonna get rid of Tim Curry?! (RiP)

Fan of the original. Fan of this remake.

I'm a fan of old school point and click DOS games, so of course I love the original game. Awesome 2D art, music, and voice acting, along with great writing. But I'm also a fan of games that take advantage of HD displays, and newer technology. Some people might say to play the original instead of this remake, but I don't think that's for everyone. Even as a fan of the original, I struggled to play through it all recently, but I powered through this remake in a couple days of long play sessions and loved it. The voice actors do a good job replacing the well known actors of the original, Mosely especially sounds very much like his original actor. And the narrator is still awesome. The music is awesome, same great vibes as the original, done with the advancements 20 years of video game music evolution has provided. This remake also makes some scenes easier to navigate, with clear, beautiful backgrounds, some with different views and angle than we saw in the original game. All in all, the story is my favorite part of this game, and you will get that same great story regardless of which version of this classic you play. Play the original, if you want classic point and click graphics, along with the pixel hunting, and other hardships that come with that era of gaming. Or play this remake, if you want modern high resolution graphics, along with the slightly clunkier animations that come with a game from a small studio. Either way, you're in for a treat, and I can recommend this remake just as much as I recommend the original, and that's a lot!

Why no original version included??

Old school adventure, pretty good basically. But why is the original version not included in this remaster?? I do not want to pay twice for the same game...
