Description
The Beast Within is the second installment of the trilogy presenting the dark adventures of Gabriel “Schattenjäger” Knight. This time the protagonist is on the trail of a strange wolf, murderer of a little girl. Gabriel was asked to take care of this evil and suspects that this case is paranormal in nature. Together with his assistant, Grace Nakimura, he discovers the dark truth behind the history of Bavaria.

The game employs full motion video technology to its fullest. The actors move through photo-realistic sceneries and every action leads to an FMV sequence. The game is a classic point-and-click adventure where you lead two characters through masterfully designed riddles, tons of life-like detective work and perfectly scripted dialogue. The friendly user interface is a finishing touch making this title a masterpiece you don't want to miss.
  • A fully cinematic adventure game that lets you play both Gabriel Knight and Grace Nakimura
  • Discover the truth about the death of King Ludwig II and uncover the mystery of Wagner’s lost opera
  • Explore actual locations in Germany captured in 1000 beautiful, high-res images

Doesn't hold up today

Probably was a fun game to play at the time for a teenager, but wasn't worth the time playing now as an adult. (1) Story was a let down. There was a lot of complexity there but it really wasn't resolved in a particularly fulfilling fashion. (2) The FMV sucked. Tedious -- there are movies of characters picking up rolls of tape, badly directed -- many scenes end with 5 seconds of the actor sitting there with nothing to do/say, and badly acted. Dean Erickson is a good looking guy and all, but there's nothing charming or heroic about his portrayal of Gabriel Knight, nor does it resemble Tim Curry's character from GK1. (3) Adventure games sucked. After playing through a few recently for nostalgia, I have to conclude that games have just moved on from when I was a kid. Spending hours wandering through every room looking for things to click on -- not fun.

Boring point and click

As much as I liked GB1 I just can't recommend GB2. The game is extremely boring and the plot is nowhere near as gripping as GB1. If I could remove 2 of the chapters ( those that played know which ones) I think I would of like it more. But as it stand I was just hoping for the game to end. Not a terrible game, just not the 5 stars that GB1 is.

Boring and bland

Boring as hell. Couldn't get into it. Dean Erickson replaced the funny and slightly pervy Tim Curry as Gabe, which totally ruined it for me, as Gabe seemed like an altogether different character. Grace and the other characters are played well, but the story is just so boring that it makes me want to go to sleep. Never finished the game, as the collection I got was missing one of the disks from this game. I'm glad. It saved me some time I would have only wasted otherwise.

A huge disappointment

As a fan of the first one this game was a total shock in how boring this was. The main character has lost all of his charm. There is pretty much none of the banter of the first. The setting feels dead and lifeless contrast the vibrant New Orleans in the first one. The plot was simple, predictable, and uninspiring. There was no real sense of mystery in this at all. I never want to have to play this again. And would not wish it upon my most hated of enemies.
