You were captured. Look what they’ve done to you… The jailer is the key, kill him and you’ll be free.
Fight your way free in this ultra-responsive, fast-paced sword fighting and dual-stick shooting game.
Boss design by Takashi Okazaki. Original soundtrack by Carpenter Brut, Danger, The Toxic Aveng...
Boss rush game, I like them, but this one... Cutscenes are horrible, pretentious and cannot be skipped, let me play de damn game. Then the combat itself, it's not even well done, animation and hits are not satisfying. In a game like Dark Souls you can kill a boss very fast if you're good, but here, it's impossible because you always have to wait for the correct pattern and the moment the developper let you do damage. A game should allow the player to express himself, here you're just a machine that must do what the developper wants you to do. Don't jump on the hype train or get fooled by pseudo art direction or alamode soundtrack.
Incredibly repetitive and with a deep focus on repeat-until-the-timing-is-perfect.
The sound track is decent, the voice overs are hokey as hell, and the visuals are satisfactory.
If you enjoy training your muscle memory to match the animation timings of a particular boss then this is for you.
I managed to get through this game, but it took a lot of mental effort to do so. If you like hard games, then you should play Furi.
Visually the game is interesting, but not stunning. I enjoy visual atmosphere this game provides. The world designs are a bit bland sometimes, but other times are pretty dang cool. Character designs are also very interesting and are courtesy of Takashi Okazaki. Voice acting is good albeit with a bland script.
Soundtrack is very good with artists like Danger and Carpenter Brut. If you've played Hotline Miami or enjoy synthwave, then you'll enjoy the soundtrack. Sound effects are also pretty good, especially the hack n slash sounds. It feels good to get that combo in and hear it as well.
At first you start with your first boss, The Chain. This is where a tutorial will help you learn the mechanics. I will warn you, even though he's the first of 10, he is still a challenge on standard difficulty.
You'll immediately notice the most difficult learning curve in this game, dodging and parrying. Parrying will be about learning your opponents timing, but dodging is probably the hardest thing to time in this game. From what I've learned, your dodge is executed not on the PRESS of a button, but on the RELEASE. This is a very frustrating flaw that caused me grief and one of the major issues with the game.
On the second boss, you'll be treated to the wonderful "bullet hell" mechanic. Luckily, your blaster helps you with that, but the difficulty spike goes up fast when you fight the third boss. You eventually have too much going on and it becomes difficult to manage.
Even on the easiest difficulty, it is still very difficult on the later bosses. Another thing, if you play on Promenade difficulty, the game makes fun of you for doing so. This bothered me and didn't motivate me to become better. I just wanted to get through it and be done.
Anyway, if you want an unforgiving game and enjoy that challenge, here it is.
Not worth the buy IMHO.
