Description

Frostpunk 2 elevates the city-survival genre to a new level. Take the role of a Steward and lead your city through a cascade of calamities taking place in a postapocalyptic, snowy setting. Build large city districts with their string of endless needs and demands. Navigate through conflicting interests of factions that populate your metropolis. As the needs of the city grow and factional power at its core rises, only you can steer the society towards an uncertain future.

THE CITY GROWS

The world is overtaken by an ever present winter, which makes expansion of the city the only way for the survival of mankind. In order to grow, the metropolis needs resources like coal and oil, just like its citizens require food and warmth. In Frostpunk 2, it's your job to tackle this never ending circle of supply and demand.

City Districts

Your city is divided into zones serving different purposes, such as housing or extraction. It’s up to you to build new ones and make sure that those already existing work in perfect unison.

Special Buildings

In time, you will have to build places like City Hall or Research Institute. Inside these buildings, you will put forth laws and projects to ensure that your city develops in the proper direction.

Colonies

To ensure that your city growth will not falter, you have to venture into the frostland. There, you can build extensive colonies that will provide all the necessary resources.

PERILS OF HUMAN NATURE

The number of your citizens steadily grows, making the task of governing them and satisfying their demands all the more challenging. As the Steward you will have to maneuver carefully across the interests of many groups inhabiting the city.

New Londoners

Your citizens can form communities and factions, each with different ideas for the city’s future. In the Council Hall you’ll put forth laws and negotiate them with the faction’s delegates.

Council Hall

Support of every faction inside the Council Hall costs dearly, as one’s faction ascension breeds discontent among others. That means you have to carefully think through every alliance.

Towards Progress

The Research Institute is where you forge the city's future. Each new project must be entrusted to a faction, forcing you to maneuver and form strategic alliances.

FACTIONS

People of your city want to have a voice in how you run things. Each faction has its own ideology and ideas for the future, yet they also have one thing in common - insatiable thirst for power. Choose your allies in the Council Hall wisely.

STORY MODE & UTOPIA BUILDER

The story of Frostpunk 2 introduces a multi-chapter saga set in the frozen wastes. Spanning across the life of the Steward this campaign lets you feel the burden of leadership as you take the responsibility for thousands of lives. At the same time, the sandbox mode called Utopia Builder with infinite play time leaves you room for boundless social and infrastructural experiments.

FULL MOD SUPPORT

Frostpunk 2 comes with a comprehensive and versatile modding tool. FrostKit will let you create your own maps, models, and scenarios inside the game. Now, only your imagination can limit the destination your city is heading to!

A real sequel

I read many discussing that it has nothing to do with Frostpunk 1 and i must agree, it is a sequel in a way that does not mean "same game with different tileset and story" but in "What happens after FP1?" I hope they improve the User Interface including more autopause options, alerts and clearer science trees as well as to make frostbreaking of smaller areas possible when im short on money, maybe with some penalty. but so far im happy.

Its okay in its own right.

Instead of directing individual citizens, FP2 shifts to global oversight through distant tile selections and mass ice breaking. After selecting tiles, you no longer see people trudging through snow, forming networks of paths that the drifts slowly reclaim. This new approach feels both freeing and restricting in its execution. FP2's building and ice breaking animations exist, but the camera—whether too distant or confined—strips away the sense of immediacy that FP1 maintained. Arriving at a near-completed city with its broken Heater (after the train), you feel the diminished stakes. The survival narrative loses its bite. FP1's Steam Heater became the lifeline of your settlement. Through each harsh day, building your city felt meaningful. That connection is missing in FP2. You inherit an established city's management, overseeing existing technology and infrastructure. The shift from personal oversight to political administrator dulls the urgency of protecting citizens from the frost. While the abrupt introduction to these changes gives pause, FP2 deserves credit for its reimagined visuals that honor the original's spirit. The soundtrack carries weight, and while the menus are perhaps too clean in design, their form fits the overall aesthetic. I do intend to play further and discover what there is to like about Frostpunk 2 as I progress.

Great fun but keep an eye on the clock!

Been playing since early-release, The game is very atmospheric with perfectly synced audio cues the really immerse you in the game world. Headphones are definitely recommended. It's been at least three nights where I started playing around 8pm and once I paid attention to the clock it was almost 2am! My only gripe is the game itself needs optimization to better it's rendered frame rate. DLSS is available and does help but considering I have an RTX 4070 I should easily be able to run this at 60fps natively. Still just a small issue that I'm sure the developers are working on.

Pretty at the Expense of Gameplay

It seems that every sequel sim game goes for "pretty" over functionality. The graphics are gorgeous, but the UI feels clunky. In Frostpunk, you could switch between a class of building easily. In this one, you are trying to work between "districts" (which have a pretty weird assignment of stats), with no way to quickly select or see all of a given type. There's no economy overview that gives you solid numbers vs how many districts you have. The restriction of the "heat tiles", and the extremely slow increase of those, even on the easiest settings, makes it impossible to ever stay ahead of wants or needs. The assignment of number of workers (400 to build a single set of buildings? 600, even? 400 to run it, and it makes 40 items a day? Really? ) makes sword weights in Skyrim look realistic. All times being measured in "weeks" is off-putting and while some of it may be accurate, it's still a lot longer than it needs to be. Better resource weighting would help, perhaps. I had been looking forward to this game. (Not "take week off from work for the release of Wrath of the Lich King" excited for it, but I've been looking forward to it.) I'm not sure I'll finish the story line.

bravery story

I played the first game to be prepared. I was amazed with game idea. Now approach is a little bit different. It looks for me like natural progres because action are now more complex and combined as society is growing. Romantic idea of humanity fighting for its survive gives heart warm like the generator.
