The greatest space combat game ever made
Freespace 2 is one of those games you can play time and time again and never get tired of. It controls well (although you WILL want a joystick), you have a huge selection of ships and weapons at your disposal, the plot is astounding and develops naturally, and the sense of scale is simply off the charts. Some of the game's largest ships will still take up your entire screen when you're half a world away from you. The dogfights are intense and things can get really FIERCE once the bigger ships come out to play - anti-fighter beams and flak cannons will keep you on your toes while you dive in to give the enemy a real beatdown. If I had to criticize it, and I do, I'd say that there's a real lack of consistency with respect to mission objectives. A lot of missions give you objectives that you can't (and don't have to) accomplish to complete them, but there's no way of telling which is which until you've failed a mission and get to start over again. Still, it's well worth your time. Be sure to get the updated graphics mods!
