Freespace 2

This game follows right on from the original Freespace and takes you back into that wonderful universe. The graphics are improved and the storyline is just fantastic! Play it through and enjoy every second of it. But wait, that's not all, the engine became open source and the community have done wonderful things with it. Mods, improved performance and effects as well as integrating seamlessly into the original game. As the title implies, this game ruined the genre of space sims for me. No game has ever come close to matching the awe inspiring battles fought in this game. The dog fighting is intense, and the capital ships are truly frightening presences.

X-wing, tie fighter be damned. A truly great space flight simulator, unmatched to this day. Everything from customizing your loadouts (DAMN why can't I have more hornet missiles!!) to the story and intense action.

Well this game is amazing pure and simple, I played the first one all the way through with no cheats......seriously no cheats. I figured with the sequel there would be some improvements but there has actually been much more. The gameplay is familiar and easy to learn so its good for novices and experts alike, above all the story has a tie with the first and there is an improvement in scenario and atmosphere. Worth the download.

I haven't played it all that much yet but so far this is what I've been looking for. I grew up playing X-Wing Alliance (I never played X-wing or Tie fighter) and I loved it. I've been looking for a game similar to that and this is it. I like how it is complicated with energy management and subsystem targeting and wing management. I was very pleasantly surprised at how similar this game was to my beloved x-wing game. The modding community for this game is also quite insane. There are graphics packs and total conversions for almost every sci-fi show out there. While I don't always play space sim games, whenever I get the urge this one will be at the top of my list.
