Freedom Fighters

The more I grow up, the less enjoyment I get from video games. Too much filler content, microtransactions/DLCs, or simply not interesting enough. In times when I feel burned out on gaming, old classics like this one make me happy. Simple but interesting story, fantastic soundtrack by Jesper Kyd, fun gameplay - what more could I ask for? Thanks to GoG and IOI for bringing this gem back.

This was one of my favorite PC games ever. Props to GOG for getting EA to rerelease it, and updated to run on modern systems. The game is STILL a ton of fun, and honestly I haven't seen anything like it to date. The whole "each board is several sub-zones where actions in one affect the troop strength throughout the other sub-zones" is a trip. Game still looks pretty nice as well. If I had any criticisms of the game it is these two things: 1. It should have been longer. The game feels two stages too short (would have been nice to see a trainyard map to finally shut down those troop/supply trains). 2. The game is way too easy. You HAVE to play this game on the hardest difficulty for the enemies to be threatening. Wish there was a harder difficulty after that too, since hardest feels like the baseline normal. But these are minor gripes. The game is still exceptionally well done and a blast to play.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. It's always fun and challenging. It's an action game but with some strategy elements perfectly blended in. You'll notice them more and more with every level that you advance. Especially when you start commanding your own team of rebels. I'd recommend not to play this game as your standard shooter, it requires a more indirect and thoughtful approach, especially on higher difficulties. The only thing I hate about the game is the story, that USA=good, Russia=bad thing was really unnecesary. Still, it won't spoil the gameplay at all.

I must admit, I didn't play it when it came out, so that's why I don't get the fan-base around this game. Still, it is a nice fantapolitical 3rth person shooter with some solid A.I. capable of thinking for themselves. Gameplay wise, it's not that great as a shooter but it gets the job mostly done, meanwhile the real focus of the action is commanding a squad of rebels throughout an invaded Nord America, which the developers managed to make them, y'know, not stupid (unlike most games at the time... and even now, actually). Other than that, story is... ok. Not that great (I mean, if you are here for the story, this is not your game), acting and pacing is awful, but I guess the game it is not meant to be taken seriously. Soundtrack is good, though. So, worth it? mmmm yeees, but mostly if you are a fan of early 2000's console game, if you are not... you can still try it out but don't expect a masterpiece.

This game is amazing. Good story, good shooting, good gameplay balance between open world and intense small action areas. Soundtrack is amazing! You want feel like a rebel? This game is for You for sure. You can be more tactic and You can be a runner - there is many options to do missions and many secrets. You know what is the best? This is great game for people who dont have too much time. You can do mission and get back 1 week later and You still get story and fun from gameplay. Really love that game!
