Description
Three adventurers that have met by chance find the Demon Stone, an ancient prison, just as it breaks before their eyes. The contained evil is unleashed and the two wicked spirits of a Githyanki general and a Slaad lord once again threaten the world.
You take control of three heroes: Rannek the fighter, Illius the sorcerer, and Zhai the rogue. Each of them has his or her own unique set of spells. Switch between them any time you want, using their abilities to your advantage. As you progress through the game, your heroes gain levels, learn new skills and acquire powerful items. You will need them all to have even the slightest chance of defeating the ancient evil you stand against.

Demon Stone is average. I like hack and slash games from time to time, so it can be a fun diversion for a while, but it really isn't anything you haven't seen before, especially if you've played The Two Towers or The Return of the King released a few years back. The most annoying thing about the game was the inability to skip FMV sequences, so if you died you had to sit through the same video over and over.
If this has been patched then it should get a 4 rather than a 3, but how it stands it is nothing really special.
The gameplay is great, the characters are fun, the graphics are nice, the story is reasonably entertaining.
What breaks this game for me is the checkpoint system. If a game requires you to redo things over and over and watch the same cutscenes over and over, all it does is just destroy any kind of fun it has to over.
You can only save between levels. Within levels, there is checkpoints which are sparsely placed and thus require you do fight through the same sequences again and again. Also, all checkpoints are placed before cutscenes so you end up watching the same sequences over and over.
This is a fun button masher set in D&D's Forgotten Realms. I really enjoyed the cinematic feel to the game, and teh ability to switch between characters as the challenges demanded it is a great feature. As a role player and a long time fan of D&D, I enjoy playing this game when I want a little action.
The best thing about this game for me is the combat and levels, which can be fun from time to time. But almost everything else has an average-ish "B" feeling.
One of the most geeky and immersion-breaking details about this game is that the party members refer to each other by class name ("rogue", "warrior" etc...) It's like they aren't really the characters, but a bunch of people LARPing. :D
This game looks better in screenshots than it really is. A weak console port as it is, the whole game has a pretty awful "low resolution" presentation all around. The characters look alright, but the menus and everything else, argh.
Demon Stone really wouldn't have to be D&D in my opinion. "Feats" are just special abilities like any other game. The fact that all these general ideas and abilities are called Feats kinda makes them seem pretentious because it is a very straightforward hack'n'slash experience, without the usual D&D depth.
For the price, it's not bad, but if you have other options, I really see no point in playing this game unless you absolutely want a FR/D&D environment.
Lets get it out there: I like Hack 'n Slash, and that makes my loathing of Demon Stone all the more grating on my nerves.
First: Even for the time when this game came out, it looks like crap. The graphics are incredibly pixelated and the textures scream consoles. But I can get past that, it's all about the gameplay, right?
Well... You're going to hate it there too. It's clunky, awkward, and even more repetitive than the usual hack n slash fair. Learning combos is useless in this game, since they don't seem to give you anything and they're just awkward. Targeting blows, and getting characters to do ranged attacks seems like a chore.
It doesn't help that the game draws out combat as long as possible, and that the same few enemy units with little variety appear throughout the entire game.
So maybe the story is redeemable? Not really. At best, it's extremely light and forgettable, and at worst, it's pandering. It's pretty much a Macguffin quest, with some big name forgotten realm characters (Oh boy, DRIZZT is here!).
The thing that really drives me nuts is the unskippable cut scenes. You're probably going to die against bosses a couple of times, and the game will force you to watch the pre-battle cutscene each and every time, without sound.
All in all, there are the elements of a decent game here, but they were all poorly implemented and console-ported up the yinyang. This isn't a good ol' game, and I highly recommend avoiding the title.
