On its 25th anniversary, rediscover this classic, consistently ranked among the best 100 games of all time! It was one of the first games to use motion capture technology for more realistic animations, with backgrounds that were entirely hand-drawn and a gripping science-fiction storyline.
Travel back to the early 90’s and reunite with Conrad to rediscover this cult classic.
Choose to play with the original graphics and sounds from the 90’s and face an unforgiving difficulty.
Or go with the Modern mode. You can also fine tune your experience by turning on Modern mode options independently and on the fly.

I've played this game on Amiga, MegaDrive, SNES, PC and now remastered on PC on GOG, and it's always been excellent. The ideal combination of platforming, puzzling and action. There is nothing like it, and the remaster seems to keep all the good and throw away much of the dated in the original game. The look is very much the same, but that's part of the charm and it's still just as playable as ever. If you like the classic Flashback game, buy this.
This is just Flashback just as I remember it. Its atmosphere of solitude in a cyberpunk world always appealed to someone as passionate about horror as I am, even though I am generally not drawn to sci-fi. It is also more exploratory than action-driven.
Everything works flawlessly in this version, motions are fluent and I appreciate the two removed cutscenes and the two interchangeable T-shirt colours. The addition of a renewed graphics and music is good although I prefer the original ones. I agree that the absence of the Amiga music and the iconic zoom option are important to finish this paint of restoration project.
It is superfluous to say that I never had to use the rewind and the tutorial options.
I have encountered only two issues:
- Did not receive the "Don't look back" achievement despite I never used the Rewind feature - maybe I have to finish it in both Easy and Normal;
- the controller has a fixed scheme that cannot be remapped. In addition, both the game and GOG Galaxy detect it and cannot be disable, in order to use a controller remapper instead.
In addition, I think that it should cost half its price by default.
Despite these few issues, I rate it five stars.
This is a poor quality reproduction packaged in a Unity game. It includes new strange star-like things to collect which are not rendered in the same style as the original graphics - visually very off-putting and provide nothing of value.
The video and audio filters ruin the original aesthetic of the game.
There is an unskippable popup window when you start the game in order to configure display settings. This renders it impossible to launch from say Steam Big Picture, one has to minimize big picture, find a mouse, then click through - every. time. I. open. the. game.
It also doesn’t work on Linux, which to be fair, is not advertised to work on Linux, however all my other GOG games work fine via Proton. No reason this game couldn’t.
I really was expecting/hoping for just the original game, not sure why they had to George Lucas it into oblivion. I bought it on sale for ~$1 and think I over paid.
On the other hand, the Another World port on GOG is of much higher quality, and IMO how Flashback should have been done - UX is good, display is configured in-app (not in popup window), works on Linux, game plays like the original.
As for Flashback, I guess I will go back to playing the genesis/megadrive version via emulator.
