Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Played on Windows 7, Windows 10, and Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit. Solid on all three OSes.
Played using a Logitech F310 controller set to XInput with no issues.
Fist Puncher has an almost River City Ransom vibe, with alotta 1980s action movie satire. The gameplay mixes 2D beat'em up action with an RPG upgrading system. Each character has different special moves which can be unlocked and upgraded. Additional characters can be unlocked and tricked out, adding replay value. XInput controllers play nicely with Fist Puncher - which helps alot in two player mode. All-in-all, Fist Puncher is a solid package and worth the $10 asking price.
On the downside: Battles can become chaotic at times. The 2D retro aesthetic may put off some folk. The lack of keyboard controls will tick off PC gaming "purists".
I wanted to like this game, but it refuses to acknowledge any gamepad other than the xbox360 one.
I bought and downloaded this game, couldn't get the pad to work - even with padtie or joy2key - and it really kinda sucks with a (laptop) keyboard.
Looks cool, sounds cool, unplayable w/o the pad as far as I am concerned.
If you have an xbox pad, give'r.
well. . . this game is great! humor in rivers, brute graphics and a good system of perks and various goodies! to play in pairs especially for the old loves of RENEGADE and double dragon ... do not be fooled ... the combo system is more fun and complex than it seems! worth every penny.
I was affraid of this gamepad problem (xbox360 only they wrote on many forums) but everything ok. I dont bought expensive xbox360, but only two cheap gamepads with Xinput and everything is going perfectly. My children plays with gamepads, I with keyboard. In game menu you can choose if you want play with keyboards+gamepads or gamepads only. Game is very funny. Launched via Hdmi it is like play playstation :)
I am happy I tried it is great entertainment :)
Summary: Strongly recommended, unless you prefer graphics over gameplay quality. Not since Saints Row 3 have I had this much genuine fun. It has tons of distinct levels and content, rock-solid gameplay and functional art styles and humor elevate this game to being easily superior to the original River City Ransom that will feel dull and stiff after this one. This is the cream of the indie game crop. The screenshots do not do it justice for gameplay this enjoyable. Seems to support 4-player simultaneous co-op and the keyboard controls are fine, so the game pad recommendation is entirely preferential.
The soundtrack is mostly silence, which is proper as it makes listening to those off-screen projectile hits easy. Sound effects are at least tolerable, with the voice acting e.g. featuring an old sage with a comedy accent.
The plot is save-women, though it is lax enough to enable more humour, e.g. an appearance by a known feminist in her Ordinary Women attire and a re-enactment of the Tokyo subway sarin attack. There are references to games like River City Ransom and pop tropes such as Steroid
The gameplay and controls rule, assisted by the smooth running of the game despite dozens of active enemies on the screen at some times. There are 22 different characters, though boss battles favor the ones with decent projectile or dash attacks, e.g. Beekeeper and Dr. Karate. Every character has an unlockable self-heal skill, letting you decide the difficulty between no healing or constant healing. Enemies drop healing items for those masochists who opt for an old-school no-healing playthrough. The characters are varied and require different playstyles, e.g. Dr. Karate plowing through hordes and Steroid throwing people around.
The game length is reportedly 4.0 to 8.0 hours, though I have put seven in and am at about the half-way point. I am probably going to play it alone at least 20 h. The CO-OP and replays give a ton of ADDITIONAL time because of the fun content.
