Description
Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness.

The year is 1989. You are a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor Delilah is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio—your only contact with the world you've left behind. But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the forest, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

A Note: Firewatch is a video game about adults having adult conversations about adult things. If you plan on playing with a younger gamer, that might be good to know going in.
  • A stunningly beautiful wilderness environment that expands as you explore.
  • A tailor-made story: the choices you make shape the narrative and build relationships.
  • An edge-of-your-seat mystery.
  • Secrets and discoveries to be made over every hill.
  • Living, breathing characters brought to life by Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead: Season 1) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men)
  • A spectacular wilderness environment by Olly Moss (Illustrator) and Jane Ng (The Cave, Brutal Legend)
  • A thrilling story and script by Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin (The Walking Dead: Season 1, Poker Night at the Inventory)
  • A stirring original soundtrack by Chris Remo (Gone Home)
  • Fluid first-person animation by James Benson (Ori & The Blind Forest)
  • Gameplay scripting and design work by Patrick Ewing (Twitter) and Nels Anderson (Mark of the Ninja)
  • Programming by Will Armstrong (Bioshock II), Ben Burbank (Costume Quest 2, Space Base DF-9), and Paolo Surricchio (Deadpool, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare)

Firewatch is good!!!

very good. Some might say that its main drawback is that it's short, and thus doesn't offer a whole lot of bang for your buck. But I think it's just long enough to tell the story the developers wanted it to tell without overstaying its welcome. It has a good story with a well-written script, believable characters that you can actually care about, and some of the best voice acting I've heard, alongside mostly pretty graphics. It's a shame the choices you make in the game are only superficial -- I'd love to have been able to see different endings that depended on my decisions -- and I did get ever so slightly sick of covering the same ground over and over again, but for the most part the interaction between Henry and Delilah kept my interest even in these parts. If you appreciate a good story told in an interesting setting, then I recommend you take a look at Firewatch. The relatively short story may just haunt you for longer than you expect. Note: I should probably mention there's quite a lot of swearing in the game. It doesn't feel out of place to me, but I suppose some people may be offended by it.

Great until the end

I enjoyed the game with its story and then how it progressed to the communication between the main characters in the game. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters. It is a nice looking game. You mostly walk/run to investigate things. I will say do explore and find more information. Read everything as it will also give you more information about the area you are in. The game is short but to me it was a fitting length except there should be more at the end. That ending was not satisfying at all which made an otherwise great experience go sour. Made me think of Deus Ex: The Fall. I did enjoy the game until that point.

Good but not perfect.

The game is good and some of it is excellent in my humble opinion, but it lacks on some. Pros: - Unique game, very different from most games - Good voiceacting, makes you wanna listen and absorb the story and atmosphere. - Unique graphics, not ultra high textures, but this is somehthing that makes the game stand out on its own and the movements of leafs etc in the wind hust adds on to this. Cons: - A bit long start, but builds a story. - A bit of slow start and the end is a bui quick (as mentioned from others, delevopers seems to be rushing the end). - Game a bit short, could be filling in more "days" ingame with others tasks. - Not much wildlife to see, you hear the bids at the lake but are they there? :P In general get it on sale, it is worth some hours to get the story and voicacting.

Beautiful

Just take it for what it is, and enjoy it for what it offers, the story and atmosphere will unavoidably suck you in. I agree that the game is short, so wait for a sale.

Not a bad game but not great either

It sure is short. I finished it after 3.5h and don't really feel like replaying. The story is somewhat absorbing, you can feel the characters and the writing is good, though the ending leaves a bitter taste. Some may like it because that's what life is - bitter, but if you're looking for a meaningful journey with a rather happy ending to contrast your daily sorrows or whatever - you will be disappointed. Other than that, the music is pleasant, graphic style is up to one's preferences but it works for this game. Overall it's nice to play and worth checking out when you get it on sale.
