Description
Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness.

The year is 1989. You are a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor Delilah is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio—your only contact with the world you've left behind. But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the forest, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

A Note: Firewatch is a video game about adults having adult conversations about adult things. If you plan on playing with a younger gamer, that might be good to know going in.
  • A stunningly beautiful wilderness environment that expands as you explore.
  • A tailor-made story: the choices you make shape the narrative and build relationships.
  • An edge-of-your-seat mystery.
  • Secrets and discoveries to be made over every hill.
  • Living, breathing characters brought to life by Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead: Season 1) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men)
  • A spectacular wilderness environment by Olly Moss (Illustrator) and Jane Ng (The Cave, Brutal Legend)
  • A thrilling story and script by Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin (The Walking Dead: Season 1, Poker Night at the Inventory)
  • A stirring original soundtrack by Chris Remo (Gone Home)
  • Fluid first-person animation by James Benson (Ori & The Blind Forest)
  • Gameplay scripting and design work by Patrick Ewing (Twitter) and Nels Anderson (Mark of the Ninja)
  • Programming by Will Armstrong (Bioshock II), Ben Burbank (Costume Quest 2, Space Base DF-9), and Paolo Surricchio (Deadpool, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare)

Beautiful and interesting walking game

Firewatch is a solid walking simulator. The forest was very nice and enjoyable to walk through. Some days you have to walk a fair while around the forest, but it wasn't so long as to be boring. There is an interesting dynamic between the main character and the operator. The dialogue was well written and humorous. The story is compelling. It was very suspenseful at times (I was nearly terrified at some points), and wraps up in an interesting way.

Slow paced mystery game

Not the type of game I normally play, but I decided to give it a try and I could not walk away. I played the whole game through in one sitting; ~4-5 hours. The mystery/story comes right out of the time in which the game is set, and the level design is absolutely fantastic. I won't spoil the story, that would ruin the game, but I will say the "reveal" is so completely obvious, and also unravels all the red herrings and other "noise" created by the characters.

Cool experience but, bit unsatisfying

It's an interesting story, with a fair amount of suspense and good voice acting but didn't finish the game feeling very satisfied. I think it's because I just need more to do, I like a bit more gameplay in my games or a the very least, some more impactful decisions- I felt most of the time I was just along for the ride aside from dialogue choices here and there. Also I realize there's meant to be a lack of human interaction, but it would be nice if nothing else to interact with the other person in the story. She's a position where she can see me, and while I can see her tower, I never see her. Howabout, just give the character some binoculars so I can look over and her silhouette can give me a wave? I'm glad I played it but- also glad I didn't fork over full price.

Makes you think..

A good story in my opinion with some difficult choices to make and in some instances, no good answer, well, not one I'd typically give. A good size map to walk around in with some pretty tense moments - not in the sense I'm used to, ie enemies jumping out at you, but more just the setting and music leading you to believe something sinister is going to happen. Personally I feel they've done a great job setting the tone and mood throughout the game. Is the game re-playable? Perhaps, I'll go through it again another time and change my answers up to see if that alters the story line in any way, in at least one instance it must. Regarding price, I specifically waited for a sale, and truthfully, you should too. The play through took me about 5-6hrs roughly with a bit of mindless wandering. The play through is enjoyable, BUT, I would have been a bit displeased with myself had I spent the full asking price (AU$19.99). Just my opinion and how I compare price paid vs time spent playing.

Graphic Novel

I saw this as a novel or a book. I enjoyed the story and the play through. Well worth the time and money spent. Actually can't wait for more of this!
