Something i've never experienced before
Being an action game fan (Metro, Uncharted, Diablo) I've never played any games based only on narration, this is the game that changed my perception. I honestly didn't expect such depth and beauty in a game. The narration really worked on me because the game is cleverly imagined to guide you through the story while letting you move freely and make some important choices. Speaking of choices, I loved the fact that you can restart a day if you srewed up an answer (like I miss-click pretty much all the time) and not having to go through till the end with a bad choice. Very good game, very beautiful design !

A Quality Nature Hike
Firewatch is a first person adventure game. The core gameplay mechanics consist of walking around a lush and beautifully realized national forest park while clicking on objects and communicating with the primary NPC exclusively via walkie talkie. The player character, Henry, has only a map and a compas to navigate around the park, and that's all you, the player, have as well. I thought this helped put me right in Henry's shoes, though at times I did find it frustrating and confusing. I would have appreciated being given some slightly clearer means of knowing where I was supposed to go and how I was meant to get there. The game is rather short, but this eliminates the concern of anything overstaying its welcome. The story is paced tightly and it's interwoven into its environment flawlessly. We're given a serene, quiet opening that builds to a gripping thriller. Some have found the ending disappointing, but I'm not among them. This isn't a story about getting you want. We aren't meant to be satisfied. And while I would argue the $20 price tag is worth the product on offer, I would understand wanting to wait for a sale.

4 hours of story
Well linear story told quite ok, I had around four hours of fun. Don't buy this at full price, at 5 Euro it is ok. No survival, no big horror or decisions. Just a story told.

Almost a 5 Star...but Still Recommended
Firewatch has an engaging story that is well written and voice acted (at least for the primary characters). The stylized setting works well and doesn't distract from the overall game. The music fits in with the game, which is set in the 80's and the game knows when to use silenece to build tension, as well as using audio effects to develop the mood. In these areas, Firewatch meets a high standard I expect from a work of interactive fiction. Firewatch falls short in a number of areas. But what about that word – interactive? Where is the interaction in Firewatch? In short, there is none. At least, there is no interaction which is endogenously significant, that is, which impacts on the system. Interactivity in Firewatch means walking to and from places, pressing space to get over obstacles, and looking at things while pressing left shift to talk to your boss, Deborah, on your walkie-talkie.
