An old game that enraptures you into an ending you dread because you aren't finished and want more.

Finally got to play
I got this game in 2012/13 in a humble bundle deal but when I finally got around to trying to play it I had the frame rate dropping problem. It's nice to have been able to finally play this thanks to GOG, well worth it at the sale price. Took me 10 hours to beat the main game, it's no deus ex but it does reward exploring where you can in health and reflex upgrades so I didn't find it as boring as most single player fps games. Game looks good to me still but the UI is stupidly small in 1440p resolution. Luckily there's mods, I used one to fix the UI and subtitle size and one to change the voice acting language. I haven't tried the expansions/dlc yet.

Thanks GOG for the Preservation Program
As the title suggests, I'm very grateful for the team behind the preservation program as I probably wouldn't have bothered to fix the game myself otherwise and experience it. I had stable 60 fps for the entirety of my playthrough and the much needed FHD support is of course a lovely addition. While I don't find the game extremely revolutionary overall, I do think it's a unique and precious game with exceptional AI, a delightful early '00s dark and gritty visual tone, thoughtful level design and an enjoyable and action packed gameplay loop featuring its signiture slow-motion mechanic. If there has to be one thing I can criticize about the presevation front however, it has to be the fact that the Extraction Point DLC seemingly doesn't have any of the newly added modernization elements compared to Perseus Mandate and the main game itself, which is a shame. Either it was because I didn't launch it after using the launcher like I did with Perseus Mandate but I'm not sure. On another note though, I think PM sucks, I didn't enjoy it, especially the ending level, very poorly designed and horribly unbalanced. If you usually don't bother with DLC of games you play, continue that habit and pass on that one as well. Something you shouldn't pass on on the other hand is the hour-or-so-long BTS documentary and other additional video content you can find in the game files (like all the DLC content btw). Generally I was very grateful to be able to experience this without having a headache on a relatively modern system and as my first game I played from my GOG library nonetheless. Recommend it 100%.
