Old crusty gamer chiming in. Fate is the most basic and boring ARPG I have played so far. This game is like an unpolished Torchlight. The combat is clunky, sounds effects are actually annoying and the game feels like a joyless slog. Fate feels like a very basic ARPG that doesn't really gain any momentum. You descent deeper into a dungeon but you just keep doing the same three quests. Kill elite enemy, collect some critter/object or destroy a shrine. You can assign stat points so that is good but the skills are underwhelming even after you pump in plenty of points. For example, I assigned 21 points into critical strike and that resulted in a 20% chance to execute a critical strike. Want to specialize in a type of weapon? Each point you assign to the weapon type you want to specialize in adds exactly ONE additional point of weapon damage. Fate seems like a game that wants to stretch out the gameplay as much as possible and at the same time be so accessible that rookies to the ARPG genre can jump in and have fun. Except, I don't see how any gamer will find the excitement to play this game for more than a few hours before being bored and moving onto something else. I don't recommend this game to anyone and if you are indeed new to the ARPG genre there are much better choices out there like Diablo III or Torchlight II. 1 star because I cannot give zero.
