Did you ever want to reroute power to the shields, set phasers to stun,
or even eject the warp core? Well, now you can! In FTL, you experience the
atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a
dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with
multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down
your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape,
power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the
fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation
roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure
through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.
FTL's complex strategic gameplay allows you to give orders to your crew,
manage ship power distribution, and choose weapon targets in the heat of
battle. You will encounter unique alien lifeforms and technology. You can
upgrade your ship and unlock new ones with the help of six diverse alien
races. Be the Captain you want: hundreds of text based encounters will
force you to make tough decisions. In the randomized galaxy each
play-through will feature different enemies, events, and results to your
decisions. Each time you play another challenging session of FTL: Faster Than Light, it won't be quite the same.
Unlimited adventures in the vast depths of unpredictable space.
A new randomized galaxy to explore each time you start a new game.
Quick play sessions (from 5 to about 90 minutes) will allow you to add that spaceship commander feeling to any of your days.
Much simpler than any rogue based game but does have the randomization and strategy often seen in rogue-like games. Easy to use UI and interface. A little overwhelming at first but I truly started to enjoy the game after the very helpful tutorial. I was a little disappointed that I had to buy the game straight from the developers site instead of gog to get the linux version included. Still a great game.
Love this Game!...wish it had option to save more than one game at a time...very frustrating to get to three sectors only to have the O2 run out for no apparent reason and die!!! UGH - no one can hear you scream in space, just on a gaming forum.
THIS GAME IS SUPERB!!!
I wrote a long review with an example of a game i had to give evidence to the claims but gog said it was too long :-(
So i'm just gonna say that this game IS that good!
Its the first game that really gives the player the experience of actually BEING a captain! Its not "fly ship, have crew fight enemy" its all about giving the orders and your crew get trained by what happens and what you do not by just area assignment and its always different and always engrossing and (on Normal mode, haven't tries Easy and do not intend to because Normal set just set perfectly!) the perfect lvl of difficulty with risk/reward and the way you play giving a real path in growth so theres very much different ways to play the game and the ships starting gear (play on normal not easy because that makes the equipment you have have more meaning and causes a real defined play styles and importance of real choice you make etc, just like a real captain!) etc etc etc.
Anyway yeah, superb game that is just so finely crafted that you can really feel the passion and dedication to "Get things right!" from the writers :-)
AND! they will be releasing a FREE UPDATE to owners to the Advanced Edition which they will be releasing within the next couple of months! :-D Goto their site n just look!
Cannot wait for the Advanced Edition! :-D
This game is everything I ever wanted.... to command a starship. However it isn't easy and sometimes a simple mistake can mean death for your crew. I love all the customisations and tools.
If you want a game that makes you think, takes time to learn and not one to conquer quickly then this is really the game you want.
Yep, this is it. It is no real game, it is some kind of a random number generator. You have absolutely no influence on your chances to win. All you can do is to hope that you`ll have luck. But in 99 of 100 times you`ll have bad luck.
It could have been a very good game, there are so many interesting and good things in it, but the game itself ruins the good parts by always throwing unfair encounters at you, which you can not survive.
You can not develope any strategies or tactics, because the game is all about absolute randomness.
My advice: Only buy this game if you are in the S/M scene and love to get kicked in the nuts. But if you like games that are fair and give you at least a small chance, then avoid this game by any means necessary!
Why do I give the game two stars and not only one? Because you can enjoy the game, for a short time, at least untill you -after your 30th unfair death- realize that this game is not fair.
