Story is lame, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Tripple A game from the past yeah. Well great story yeah! Nice pics ohh hell yeah!!! Well awesome, right? So then why only one star, right? The problem is in game design, the enemies and in the overall combat experience. If I compare combat mechanics with really old HL today's Black Mesa, for the sake of the argument, then in HL FPS game all things are doable with given things. On contrary FarCry lacks any of that. You will find that in higher diffulties enemies are able see trought walls and headshoot you from absurd distances even with pistol, where you are having difficulty to score shot even on point blank range. So best option is that you go in most easy difficulty and with some invulenrability package, just to go trough cliche like story to see if the doctor evil is put into order in the end and you are able to catch the attention from empowered progressive female. Well bought it with a bundle, so I wont complain for price/value ratio, but this is not an old game where I will return to. Thing is that you might ask the question why this game engine is and wasnt used for MP FPS like good ol Vietcong or classic CS whilst from similar time...

A lot of people write about this game blinded by nostalgia, but here's the harsh reality: this game is bad and extremely broken, and it was bad and extremely broken even when it came out. Sorry folks. The only reason it got successful was literally the graphics, and nothing else. No, it isn't a thinking man's FPS. Enemies can see you from literally miles away (yes, literally), can instantly kill you with mid-range weapons that couldn't even be used for sniping from the opposite end of the map (and the maps are giant btw), with their accuracy being 99% perfect. Also, enemies can withstand multiple headshots and their shots don't spread. The same can't be said for the player. Also, you cannot save the game, there is a checkpoint system. Which means, 99% of the time, you are going to just die and redo 30 minute parts because you walk into insta-kill death zones until you learn from muscle memory where exactly everybody is. Even then, the game is borderline impossible. Oh yeah, and this is actually on the easiest difficulty! So, why the hell do I give it a 3? Because I like the simple action hero story, and when you know what you are actually doing, the game can be fun. The weapons are also really cool. But if you play it, you might as well just play it on the hardest difficuly, because there is almost no difference. The AI was even more broken actually, with enemies able to fire through tents and buildings, but they eventually fixed that. All in all, closing words: it would be easier to fight in an actual battlefield against real soldiers and mercenaries than to fight enemies in this game. It is that hard.
