Fantasy Wars

How does it come, that the predecessor of a game is claimed as a clone? One poster gave this good game a one star rating, because it would be a "Elven Legacy" clone. Fact is, Elven Legacy is the successor of Fantasy Wars. I also found Fantasy Wars more fun as Elven Legacy -- though I must admit that Fantasy Wars is technically a little behind -- but that campaigns where more fun to me. Fantasy Wars was the reason, I bought Elven Legacy -- because it was really appealing to me. Ok, I don't need all the animations and stuff and games like Panzer General are far more balanced and more playable ... but it is a really good adaptation of the game mechanics into the fantasy realm and Magic gives further twists (though sometimes annoying). So, this is a five star rating for me. Panzer General II of course would get a 7 star rating -- if it ever will be published via gog!

Love it. i was looking for some old games like fantasy general and found amazing game. Such a lovely graphics, those hills and rivers, amazing. Whole scenery and units are wonderfully animated. Enjoying game very much, its worth much more then current discount price.

This game is inferior to its groundbreaking but "mundane" original, which is Panzer General. The mechanics is solidly inherited, which is a plus, but 3D is about as vital to the game as glitter to chess. Many missions are counterintuitive and feel unnatural, and AI capabilities are often substituted by hordes of grunts thrown the player's way from unpredictable directions, often with a lame "explanation" following. Those who are in love with the stellar brilliance of Panzer series AND enjoy the fantasy twist will like the game; others, not so much.

(+1 star for price) I only played two missions from the human campaign as I worked my way through my backlog. I bought this game because I got an itch from playing the Fantasy General II: Prologue. My itch subsided before I even installed this game. When I finally played this, I was not disappointed. The feel and core mechanics of this game are very similar to Fantasy General II and enjoyable in their own right. Although it's older and cheaper, it has a lot going for it. The gameplay is intuitive but challenging. The graphics and interface are clean and easy on the eyes. The campaigns seem to have stories that are richer than FGII: Prologue. The voice acting is surprising good with none of the goofyness that plague some Eurojank games. In fact, the game doesn't feel janky at all. In my three hours playing, I experienced no bugs. If you have an itch for this type of game but don't want to spend a bundle on the latest offerings, Fantasy Wars and its sequel, Elven Legacy, could be just what you need.

I played Fantasy General back when it came out. Absolutely loved it. This is that game in 2007. At the time of this review I'm 38 years old. I play strictly RPG's and Fighting Games with a few gems from other genres here and there. And this is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of those gems. If you're like me and can still get in to old school games with great gameplay and story lines, just buy the game. It's a straight out steal at $4.99!
