Fantasy General II - Invasion

Fantasy General II is well designed with satisfying unit progression/upgrade tree and varied missions that keep the game interesteing. The missions encourage you to try new things and new challenges are introduced at a good pace. The story is solid, not great literature, but I do appreciate how well it is reflected in the missions and unit types - the Barbarian campaign did a great job in making me feel like the leader of a warband and more than once I felt pretty badass as an enemy frontline crumbled from the shock of my units charging from the trees

I've played the original Fantasy General ever since I was a kid and have been a long time lover of the game. While I would have liked Fantasy General II to be basically an expansion of the original with new maps and units and a new storyline, Fantasy General II holds up well on it's own and pays homage to the original.

The free version is just enough and I had fun with it for 2 days. You can play a free campaign called the curse. At about mission 4 you really have to pay attention and on mission 5 it gets very hard. With enemies coming from everywhere, ambushing you, running away so you get stuck between armies, ... You get wiped out very fast and have to load old saves a lot. It reminds me of the fantasy wars and elven legacy games but without the move limit. Just as difficult and instead of the move limit they just throw more and more enemies at you, including wildlife (including giant dragons, kinda cool) that attacks you while you are facing enemy armies. After this free prologue I have had enough. There are other similar games that I like more, are a bit more forgiving and keep it more interesting, Warlock for instance. This game is just battle after battle and some upgrading of units. Could be a smarthpone game. Only for the hardcore fans I think.

I played Fantasy General a lot, and enjoy Fantasy General II even more.

This is my kind of game. Turn based combat, character/unit leveling with lots of customisation and random artifacts that can drastically change the game. No long story to get Immersed it, so if that is what you are looking for, this probably ain't it. You should pay attention to it somewhat though. There will be game altering decisions to be made.
