Feels unpolished...

Crashing and freezing in different ways. Loading times can be insane (from a decent NVMe) - exiting a cave took me 20-30 seconds! I thought it was another freeze/crash, but was just loading times... Also got annoyed on all the loot you pick up, without knowing how heavy it is or how valuable it is. Constant looting, game is littered with trash to pick up. Apparently you need everything you can find for crafting, so better pic up all you see, and have a full inventory after just one hour - inventory that is cumbersome to access through menus and then try to filter/sort. Just seems like a big mess everything - unpolished, and not very helpful in trying to help you how to play. If you like Bethesda games, and have the patience, it probably is good though...many seem to like it.

Good with mods on modest hardware

I purchased this on Steam ages ago. It runs fine on modest hardware. Last year I was running it on a desktop with a 4.2 GHz AMD quad core FX-4350 CPU from 2015 or so. The desktop had 16 GB of memory and a Radeon R9 380X video card with 4MB of VRAM also circa 2015 and maybe roughly equivalent to a GTX 1050 Ti. I use a *lot* of mods. I had 408 mods with 334 plugins. That included the quite excellent SimSettlements mod, better looking player and NPC stuff, some overhauls, and some lots of other stuff. Some of those mods were for reducing VRAM, reducing crashes, improving stability, bug fixing, etc. I also used customized settings that were way less than maximums. In particular, for my hardware, greatly reducing shadow features made a big difference. That said, IIRC, I think I was getting 40 FPS in many places, but that didn't affect combat or gameplay for me. (Not to start a war, but note that many TV shows and movies are only 24 FPS; games tend to need more than that for various reasons, but 60 or 120 isn't a magic number). The problem with Bethesda games is they're often buggy out of the box. There's usually community patches for fixing game engine bugs, fixing quest bugs, and improving performance. And, improving the UI. If you're at all up to it, look into mods. I'm sure there must be a bunch of guides available to get started with a minimal set of bugfix and quality-of-life mods. Use ModOrganizer 2 or Vortex as mod managers.

another vault another story

I played a bit 3 and New Vegas, didn't had the time back then to dive deeper into these post-apocalyptic games. After the TV Show i gave 4 another shot. With V-Sync forced off , debris and god rays off, unmoded, 2k with 0 crashes, i am having the time of my life. Some dialogs are dull, not too much depth or soul, but it's there for the sake of getting to the point faster, the story could've been a bit more non-cliche, the sole survivor voice acting is just terrible, terrible. Personally I appreciate a more silent protagonist. Grapchis are great, the bugs help me light up the mood, they are hillarious, especially when a conversation is started. I have a great time walking, scavaging, listening to music, working my skill tree and crating stations, exploring the story and map with some great companions with some good emotional dialogs and pep talks and last but not least, getting the upper hand over the heavy enemies of the wasteland.

16 times less dialogue

Fallout 4 is as close to Fallout as Travis Miles is to Three Dog. Dialogue is identical to 2011's MMO - Star Wars: The Old Republic with less influence on the outcome. With 4 ways to respond in a conversation, of which 2 are the same, you will be usually tapping the "elaborate" option to try to get some context for what's happening, which the game is not providing to you, because it knows the writing is garbage. Which in turn only makes your voiced protagonist all the more annoying by answering every question with another question.
