The Power of Choice - Feeling like a dastardly villain today, or a Good Samaritan? Pick a side or walk the line, as every situation can be dealt with in many different ways. Talk out your problems in a civilized fashion, or just flash your Plasma Rifle.
Blast 'Em Away With V.A.T.S. - Even the odds in combat with the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System for your Pip-Boy Model 3000! V.A.T.S. allows you to pause time in combat, target specific body parts on your target, queue up attacks, and let Vault-Tec take out your aggression for you. Rain death and destruction in an all-new cinematic presentation.
Mind-Blowing Artificial Intelligence - At Vault-Tec, we realize that the key to reviving civilization after a global nuclear war is people. Our best minds pooled their efforts to produce an advanced version of Radiant AI, America's First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.
Eye-Popping Prettiness* - Witness the harsh realities of nuclear fallout rendered like never before in modern super-deluxe HD graphics. From the barren Wasteland, to the danger-filled offices and metro tunnels of DC, to the hideous rotten flesh of a mutant's face. *Protective Eyewear Encouraged.
When I 1st bought this game, I had Windows XP 32bit. It played GREAT! Since then I haven't been able to play at all.
Why some simple modification cannot be made to adapt this to a 64bit system I do not pretend to know.
I even reinstalled a 32 bit system, and it still will not play past the launcher, it will get as far as the introductory screen but no farther! Why they can't come up with their own version of a 64bit to 16/32bit player / converter that functions consistently I do not know. It should only require a 32 bit virtual XP 32bit machine as a subset of what ever 64bit system is in use now.
I played several hundred hours of this game back about 15 years ago, and wanted to go back for nostalgia purposes. It wasn't a wholly terrible experience, I had some fun exploring the city, but ultimately, games have moved on from this game so massively that it's difficult to go back. Also I would advise not to play Operation Anchorage or Mothership Zeta. They are combat focused DLCs for a game whose combat is at best functional. Decided to give up on the game without finishing the main quest, or all the DLCs. My interest just kind of petered out after about 60 hr. Which was decent and not a complete waste of time. Did some of my favourite quests and now it's time to move on. New Vegas maybe.
As a review, the writing is really lackluster as is the combat, but there is a charm in the atmosphere that this game sets. I suppose that must have been what hooked me to this game so many years ago. Don't go in expecting to be blown away by the writing. It is what it is. It's a good game when taken as a whole, but has deep flaws, which Bethesda never really fixed in subsequent games. But, as I said it has it's charms.
I was quite disappointed, however, at the music on the radio not working. It stutters when playing off the PipBoy, though not if the radio is in the environment. The music was a big deal about the atmosphere of this game, and I wish GOG would fix it. Other than that it was quite stable on my 10-year-old windows 10 machine, so that's a plus.
I've loved this game for years. But I can't get it to play. At this point it's grayed out on Install, no option to launch. Tried here, tried Steam, no dice. At this point I'm thinking about just getting an Xbox to play this again. If you can get it to play, good on you. It's a tasty game, just wander around and find stuff. It's a wonderful little world to wander, the stories are lame to fair. I don't know if it's some hardware limitation or just that it's so buggy, but I know plenty of other people who've gotten it to play for them.
Within a few hours of gameplay I've had multiple game breaking issues. One full crash for no reason. Multiple instances of getting stuck in the game and being unable to move or fast travel.
Reviews that state that this is playable are vastly overstating the stability of this product in Win10. I've used the same computer to play comparable Bethesda titles without these same issues. A first on GOG or with Bethesda, I will be asking for my money back. Caveat Emptor.
