You are the Chosen One, the direct descendant of the Vault Dweller. The village elders have selected you to wear the sacred Vault-suit of your grandsire and, in time, to ascend to the leadership of your people. First you must prove your devotion to your people. Your tribe needs help.
If you are truly the Chosen One, then you alone are capable of claiming the heritage of the Vault Dweller, to take back your birthright. Among the many wonders described in hallowed yellow pages of the Vault Dweller's Survival Guide is the Garden of Eden Creation Kit. The GECK is said to have the power to turn the harsh Wastes into a fruitful paradise. The Vault Dweller's Survival Guide promises the redemption of the GECK to all Vault Dwellers.
Your tribe has survived over ten years of drought but now their reserves are at an end. You must find Vault 13 and claim the technology that your tribe needs to survive. If you fail in this quest - your tribe will surely die. You must travel the perilous Wastes on a holy quest to find Vault 13. The same Vault that cruelly cast your grandsire out into the Wastes 80 years ago. The Vault owes you. The Vault owes your tribe. Now it's time to collect.

What improvements we made to this game:
Update (20 March 2025)
Updated SFALL to version 4.4.5 for improved compatibility and performance.
Fallout 2 is one of the few unmatched games. An immersive RPG with dense atmosphere and a good share of black humour.
The only thing you need is Patience. She disappeared a couple of years ago, at about the time when smartphones came on the market. If you find her, she will help you to enjoy one of the best games ever made! (or you are old enough and she never left you)
There's only one thing bugging me at this version: It still is slightly censored. The blood is there, the children are here, so what might be missing? They changed some terms, f.e. the word "drug" had been changed to "chem" and "addiction" is substituted by "reliance" or "craving".
That does not affect the gameplay though, just saying
If you want the game 100% uncut you still need to get the US version or install some patches. But in my opnion really not worth the effort...
Fallout 1 was great, Fallout 2 manages to be even better. Everything that the first did well, the second improved further. Your stats and skills are more balanced, and some that used to be quite useless now have purpose. Some quality-of-life things were also added, such as a button for taking all the loot at once in a container and being able to deal with a greater amount of itens at once, especially useful when buying weapons worth thousands of dollars. There are more perks, and more useful ones, more weapons, more possible combinations, just in general more good stuff! And that includes the world!
The world is much bigger than the first, and you can see many of the locations improving and rebuilding civilization in their own way, really makes you feel the passage of time and the influence of the events of the first game. The characters and story do not dissapoint either, there are many interesting people to meet and an intriguing plot to investigate. The roleplaying aspects, one of the greatest aspects of the first, has also been improved. There are many more options of dealing with problems, with several different outcomes, influenced by more stats and skills now that they are no longer useless. Few games allow you to roleplay as much as this one. You can be a hero, a villain, something else, and even a porn actor!
The graphics are the same, but still retain their charm, leaving some things to the imagination, a postive, in my opinion. The music still rocks, with some tracks like All-Clear Signal being my favorite in setting the tone among both the classic games.
Despite its flaws, crashes and unfinished content, which are still present with the first, this is a fantastic game, and the flaws will not distract you from all the fun. If you like roleplaying and player choice, make sure to give this one a try, you won't regret it.
Linux Compatibility (for me): Other than the bugs mentioned, the game runs well.
Wine version: 9.11
I loved and still love the game and even after alle these years I still enjoy playing it.
But there are a couple of things to mention with this version.
There are a couple of areas you can't visit (Ghost site in Klamath, Mariposa Military Base, Vertibird Crash site -- the game crashes if you enter) and the kids are put to invisible, that makes it impossible to resolve at least one of the quests (finding Johnny).
But all in all it is still the best version i found so far, so still a good 4 stars
for the game allone ynd my experience with it 5, but with the censorship, and missing places only 4.
What I am about to say some may consider blasphemy. I liked Fallout 2 better than the original.
1) The storyline and main enemy were nearly as good as the original.
2) The world was much bigger with more to do.
3) Better user interface in regard to purchasing/selling items and inventory.
4) Better companion interface.
5) More weapons and armor. Like Advanced Power Armor and the M 72 Gauss Rifle.
Fallout 2 did an excellent job building on the original, both in the storyline and using/improving upon the same game-engine. The only real down-side to FO2 was it starts off slow, real SLOW. However, once you are over that it gets good, really quick. Also, there was less voice acting, but big deal. They had limited time in development from what I understand.
On a side note, FO2 has more humor and is less bleak than the original, in my opinion at least. The world seems to be coming slowly back to life and there are more settlements, which is only logical as 80 years have past. Whether this is good or not depends on your point of view. I personally liked these aspects.
FO2 also was a tad more forgiving in regard to ammunition management. I believe the merchants restocked more often. And.......you get a car.......which is really great!
In conclusion, if you like the original you should like FO2 as well. Nothing is perfect but I really enjoyed both games. Thanks GOG!
