Description

Your goal is to build a thriving village in the wilderness, supplied with a wide selection of food, clothing, tools, books, and magical artifacts that you produce from raw materials.

Worker units can help you move goods between production buildings and markets, but as much workload as possible will need to be automated using mechanical transportation systems. Use a combination of gravity-powered chutes, conveyor belts, railroads, pipes, sorters and filters to route items around the map so they can be processed and sold.

As your earnings rise, you can research new technology to improve your supply chains and grow your civilization. There's no enemies or starvation to worry about, so you can enjoy a stress-free logistics challenge to maximize production and happiness.

  • Play through eight built-in campaign maps with unique goals, or start your own customized/random map from scratch
  • Build complex logical systems with gates, triggers, and filters to make sure resources get to the right destination
  • Unlock magical technology to boost your production buildings to absurd output rates
  • Terrain sculpting tools to shape the world to suit your needs
  • Creative/Sandbox mode let you build whatever kind of huge factory you want

A great peaceful logistical gem

It is a theme in the gaming industry to have great games coupled with agressive elements: Wars, enemies, hordes etc. For some people these aspects are what makes a game fun. For me, however, they are a deterrence to the enjoyment of the game's systems. Factory town is the kind of gem that is not afraid of going beyond the market trend of "build a base, protect from enemies, thrive". The game is focused on peaceful development of a village, from its early resource gathering age to a tech-magic system of transport and processing in the late game. Now don't be fooled: The mid to end game is not easy, just because it doesn't have a bad guy for you to kill. You will have to make supply chains of increasing complexity, using all of the tools at your disposal to keep your villagers at a steady level of happiness (and the game will provide you with several tools to analyze and plan your next move towards this goal). I bought this game in early access on steam five months ago. Today, I am glad to have bought it again on GOG. Sumarizing everything: If you like factorio, satisfactory, or any other logistics game, but believe that the hostile mobs detract instead of adding towards your enjoyment of the game, then Factory Town IS the game for you. If you enjoy getting into endless battles against aliens or hordes of mobs, then this game won't offer you this kind of entertainment. It is different, it is peaceful and it will keep you entertained for several days as you grow the necessary logistics to make your villagers happier, one good at a time.

Addictive, fun, and peaceful...

A little over 60 hours in, loving this game to the point of addiction. Pros: Many things to build, whatever, wherever, and however you want. Roads, bridges, ramps, scaffolds, chutes, conveyors, rails, or send a raft or boat across the lake. Fences, walls, benches, flowers, or plant some trees or bushes. Plant fruits or vegies anywhere to harvest for food or just to look nice. Put buildings, roads, or structures anywhere you want, and if you change your mind, just click and move it! Use blocks or scaffolding to place buildings or roads over rough terrain, and if you move things later, the terrain is still in it's original form, not flattened out from the building. You can make things work more efficiently, and you have lots of tools and options to make improvements. It's sometimes a challenge to get everything working just right, whether it's a farm's crop production or getting stone down from a mountain. Make wider roadways to eliminate congestion, or if something is in the way, use ramps and scaffolding to build up and over! Try something new, and if it doesn't work, just click and move things around until it does. Be as creative or concise as you please. Take your time tweaking one project without worrying about what's happening in other parts of the map. Place new buildings, add all the details and finishing touches, get automated production going, all while your townspeople happily go about their assigned chores. No enemy attacks or unexpected disasters to ruin everything you've done. The music is calming, the bouncy townspeople are fun, and the pretty details create a very pleasant atmosphere. Magnificently well done. Cons: A few of the key controls were uncomfortable at first, but you can change them in the options to get them just how you like. It's important to train yourself not to right-click to deselect a worker, because doing so will cancel their assigned tasks and they will walk over and just stand there in the spot where you right-clicked.

Great Until Broken Saves

This game is a fun game that has some actual depth. If you like games involving logistical factory issues, then you will like this game. That is, until you run into the save error bug. I've had three playthroughs break because of this error. It revolves around using logic blocks for belts and chutes. Also, once you experience it that map is corrupted. Even if you delete the block and successfully save, that save is still corrupted if you try to reload. The only way around is loading an older save that has never been exposed to this error. So, again, be extremely wary of the logic blocks because they might break your game.

pretty good with some flaws

Please remind, that things that are not good need more explanation. What I liked: - pleasent look - nice animation - the game does not punish you for doing things slow, because ressources go back to your inventory if you delete any structures. - you got no likes from your people because you screw up or delete all the stuff to recreate? No problem, this will not hold you back. - for a game created with so small ressources it is amazingly good What I disliked: - This is a logistic game, but the logistic is pretty unlogical. Why? Even to do some simple tasks like opening or closing a train barrier is horrible complicated. May be there is someone who figured out how it workes, but it is definitive not self explaining and far away from userfriendly. - In a logistig game it should be the main thing to manage complicated logistic, to move a lot of goods in a efficient way. Unfortunately the way you can do that, seems not very efficient. All logistic needs a lot of space. While this is not a big problem for creating goods, for moving them to the tiny point where the houses and the markets are it is. You want to cover all the houses with all the goods? Nearly impossible, because there is no space to deliver them all to the markets ore there are out of range from the houses. - You need way more people to create goods than you can deliver them with these goods. - the documentation how things work lacks polishing. May be a lot of things can be done but it is not plug and play. Example: don't expect to just pull skills in you action-bar where you need it, or copy a train with wagons. Copying parts of structures are possible, but pain in the ass since there are some restrictions how they are built and how they can be placed (hight level). There are some simple example-maps for some logitic stuff but way to simple, and not what is needed to do real logistic. - has some minor bugs when you copy structures. I definitely had fun with the game and think it's worth playing.

Factory style

Good game in a Factorio style. Some minor bugs and sometimes not that easy to understand.
