As a member of the strange secret society E.Y.E, you wake up after a fight in which your fellow teammates were killed. E.Y.E, an armed branch of the Secreta Secretorum is attempting a coup against the all-powerful Federation, a coalition of several worlds and planets that rule with an iron fist.
To complicate matters, E.Y.E itself is plagued with its own internal conflicts between the Jian faction and the Culter faction, to which you belong. Your loyalties are torn between Commander Rimanah, your superior and the chief of the Secreta who is a separatist with an unstoppable ambition, and the "Mentor" your friend and instructor. The "Mentor" tries at all costs to unite the two rival factions. In doing so, you are thrust into the middle of a fratricidal war frought with political conspiracies and quests for power in which different groups and megacorporations are implicated.
These troubles set the stage for an attack by an unknown force bent on destroying humankind.

I wish they'd make a sequel, this is an absolute gem.
Blending FPS, RPG elements and an almost imcomprehensible yet brilliant story makes it a little rough around the edges, but it's worth the effort.
If polished, this could be a great game. Better levels, refined items and skills. This game offers much but for me it isn't nearly polished enough to be fun in the long run (played it maybe 5 to 8 hours). So watch videos and decide if you like the style. Or jump in half-blind when on sale.
When I read the elogious reviews, well... We did not play the same game. That one is obvious.
I remember playing it a loooong time ago, and it was a chore, I forced myself to finish it and then forget it forever. But I did not forget it.
Long story short: the only good thing here is the setting, and I am generous. It is hardly explained, and the ending makes it worse.
The gameplay is tedious, the difficulty curve is completely absurd: from ridiculously easy to impossible in mere seconds. There are RPG elements, but the skills take foooooreveeeer to improve, hence making grind mandatory. And by grind, I mean GRIND. Seriously G.R.I.N.D. Forgive me for not liking it, at all.
I am just pointing at the tip of the iceberg here. The whole gameplay loop is boring, repetitive, tedious, mazelike, unsatisfying, and totally unbalanced.
EYE is one of those games (like Age of Decadence) which - for reasons I might never understand - have acquired a cult following amongst a niche audience.
I, as a seasoned gamer, have seen far worse games, far far worse. But this is no excuse.
Hey, if it is for you, good for you. But in no way is "EYE" even remotely a good game, by any standard.
EDIT: I own the game on Steam, not GOG.
This is truly a great game, but the moment it "clicked" with me was joining a 16 player game and seeing the absolute unbridled insanity going on in there. I guarantee left to your own devices you'll be frustrated and confused to no end and walk away unsatisfied.
This game (which i wasn't aware of before GOG and i'm an old-school gamer) seems to be very interesting, at least as far as i've come to play it. It has a particular and complex gameplay, atmospheric graphics and music/sounds that immerse you in a mysterious environment between alchemy and sci-fi technology. As far as i played it i liked it but unfortunately it suffers from the defect that does not allow you to play it with a controller and even using a program like "JoytoKey" or similar, it is unplayable anyway because it was not originally designed for this. And i, being a pc old-school gamer and a game console system old school gamer too, no longer want to play with a mouse and keyboard. If the developers would fix this flaw, i think the game deserves to be played more thoroughly.
