Expendable

I don't have a joystick so I don't know how that would fare, but playing with a controller (it supports my modern Saitek 360 one out of the box but doesn't recognize the triggers or the right stick) I wonder how I managed to play it on the PS1 back in the day. The graphics are very good and look great, but the controls make it really a test of patience. It could seriously use a control patch to make it more twin-stick like and less "direct". Otherwise it is a nice arcade-style game.

Rage always had good hand to action games, shooters or other genre games (but focused on fast action); both Incoming's, Mobile Forces, and what we are now interested most, Expendable. Story, well, is almost non-existing. Another alien invasion and savior of the universe, bla bla bla... but I don't consider it as disadvantage. If this kind arcade shooter is enjoyable (Expandable is, very!) I simply don't care about story. I wan't explosions, many aliens to smash on walls and lot's of guns and ammo! Main game objective in all missions is to walk through levels and kill anything what is moving, well almost. Sometimes you need to rescue some survivors. There is plenty weapons to collect, if you gather wapons of same type you get more ammo and weapon became more powerfull. Goood way to kill bosses faster, which are at end of level. As you walk many funny things can happen like crashing plane, pillars falling over road etc. Sounds are done very nicelly, explosions, gun noises or alien's sound, all on good level. Techno-style background music fits well to game also. Controls are easy to learn and easy to master. Nice future in game is cooperative with 2 players on same screen. When you play game you fell like on your own home arcade mashine!

Beware! Dont buy in current state. Surprisely, game doesnt start on Windows 10x64 for some various configurations. It doesn't surprise me that an old game doesn't work at Valve, but it's quite sad that even GOG is selling such rubbish product. Whats wrong with GOG? In the old days, you could count on a game from them always works without any problem.

Well the game starts of very well. A very decent presentation, fun gameplay, a lot of chaos and destruction. A perfect game, untill it comes to the controls. Its very hard to master the controls, even setting it on the WSAD keys. Its annoying when you don't have full control over an caracter and want to get a highscore. Probabaly one of the best games on GOG, But I am not so sure whether you should buy this because of its Wacky controls.

I remember playing this game quite a few times, but never really reaching the end. Now I've found the cheatcode (-bod- for enabling cheats, then -bucketofchicken- to enable 3rd person mode) which made this game really enjoyable. Graphic, sound - no problem whatsoever.
