EVERSPACE™ - Encounters

I'm personally loving it. The past week I'd been hoping they would add a fourth ship and perhaps some other stuff, but I was afraid I may have to wait until there's an Everspace 2, so I have no beef with it coming as paid DLC. After all, they said right from the start when it was still in development there'd only be three ships. I find the new ship a valuable addition. At first it's a bit weak compared to the other three as I have them fully upgraded, but once you start improving it (especially the energy core) in the Perks section, it's a fine vessel. The NPC encounters and missions for me definitely add a new dimension to the game, I feel less alone in space :) The new devices, consumables, primary and secondary weapons, modifications etc only add to that. I consider the money well-spent and would definitely be open to more DLC of this quality and quantity in the future. I hesitated whether I'd wait until it would show up on sale on Gog, happy I didn't.

This DLC is worth the price in my opinion. It makes space seem a lot less empty and the voice acting for the characters is good too, nothing too silly and nothing taking away from the overall experience. The new weapons and items are nice and the new ship is a ton of fun to use too. I upgraded the other three ships as far up as I can and I needed a reason to keep playing beyond the "randomness" of the maps, and this did it for me. I'm not the best at game reviews, only I can say that if you like EverSpace you will not feel scammed for spending about $10 on this DLC. More things to find and more things to do... So just a reminder: If you like the base game and want more, you will like this. If you need to wait for GOG to put it on sale, I understand but know that this DLC does enhance the game. The new ship has space lightning guns that ark! It may even seem overpowered at first, though if you lose your shields it's all over if you don't think fast. I love glass cannons that can wear heavy armor.

I really enjoy the new characters added to the game, it makes the universe feel a bit more real. The more I talk to them the more I try to figure out their motivations. Haven't finished all their quests yet. The new ship is definitely not a "re-skin" as one reviewer wrote - Not only does it have different stats making it a bit more fragile than the default ship, the handling is much more suited towards dashing-far-too-fast-far-too-close to asteroids, which is my favorite way to accidentally kill myself. It might end up being my favorite of the 4 ships. The new weapons are pretty fun as well. While I do usually avoid most DLC's, this one was worth it for me. Your mileage may vary, of course, but the added content expanded the enjoyment of the game, and didn't feel like a mindless cash grab. As for the couple of people complaining about DLC's, what do you expect companies will have to do to stay afloat when users only ever buy games that are on sales these days. Employees like getting paid, you know.

A really great addition to the game. Adds some reasonable content like story characters which do make the game feel more alive. I think it is worth the price.
