After about 110 hours (ingame winter day 22 year 3 -the year starts in summer-) I completed the story and am at a point where I feel good about writing a review.
I absolutely fell in love with Everafter Falls. The start was a little aimless, but after walking all across the map, especially in the shops, which have posters about what is possible with what machine (although I can't find the poster for the food processor anymore; at least I think I saw it somewhere), and a look in the crafting menu, I had some basic idea. Although some things I only learned through the wiki (like how to get pink bees), but since I'm more the hoarder type, there was no fear of selling something I might need.
Everafter Falls won me over with a missing stamina and friendship/relationship bar, which makes the game feel so much more relaxing to me. Which means, if relationships are one of the things you like about games, you will enjoy EF probably a lot less than me. EF has some little personal stories and an overarching storyline told by progressing through the dungeons though. I like it a lot. And I love, that dungeon diving is somewhat optional. "Somewhat" in the sense, that you need to do some copper and iron mining to upgrade your pickaxe, but then you can clear the path to the tunnels (one in the north and one in the south -has gold ore for the nothern tunnel pickaxe upgrade-), which have ore stones, coal, round stones and shard stones in them and all you need to do is put blue or rainbow pixies on them and the pixies will harvest them indefinitely for you. This is how I got all my ores for smelting (after upgrading the pickaxe to iron). Of course, it takes a while and you need to get pixies first (which was another thing I looked up online), but I was busy farming and fishing, and tending to my animals. I only went dungeon diving, when I wanted to progress the story. I have to say though, that the difficulty spike from dungeon 3 to 4 is ridiculous/insane. (Or maybe that is just me being bad at real time battling?) So if you only want to farm, fish, gather, you can do that indefinitely without touching the story. At least I didn't get any prompts to go beat the dungeon and I doubt there are such in the game. Of course some content is tied to finishing the dungeons and cursed runes.
Everafter Falls lets me do things at my own pace. The only quests that have a deadline are the planting seasonal crops ones by Freya. And 30 days is no stress for me at all.
There are minigames. After trying out fishing, I was glad this minigame could be disabled, but I enjoy the other ones, the meal service is especially fun for me, although I only cooked two meals during normal gameplay because they were tied to quests and I wanted to complete those. I don't know yet, if I want to complete the cooked meals collection.
If I really want to complain, I need to mention the (mostly) typing errors in the german version, but I can live with those. And sometimes my cows make a 360 head rotation, but I think it's kind of cute.
It is correct though, that the collection range for items is very small, so there is that.
And I was perplexed as the end credits rolled. But the game continued afterwards, which was a relief since I still want to do things.
Everafter Falls has a special place in my heart. And I'm looking forward to my second game (there are 3 profile slots). I wonder if I will get lucky with the pigeons (got 1 pink, 2 whites and 1 black) and their drops again.
