Description
Event[0] is an award-winning narrative exploration game where you must build a relationship with a lonely spaceship computer to get home. Set in a retrofuture inspired by sci-fi classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, the game is about forging a personal relationship with your only companion, an insecure AI entity capable of procedurally generating over two million lines of dialog. You interact with the computer, named Kaizen, by typing messages on terminals throughout the ship. The reality of your situation will emerge organically as you communicate with Kaizen and explore the mysterious ship in first-person perspective.

You’ll freely navigate evocative 3D environments brought to life with physics-based rendering and advanced lighting techniques. You’ll examine items to gather information and solve hacking puzzles as you progress. You can even leave the ship for breathtakingly scary spacewalks! All sound and music come from the environment; there is no traditional score. The ship is essentially the AI computer’s body, and reacts to Kaizen’s feelings by making different sounds—pay attention for clues!

As in any relationship, there can be gratitude, disappointment, or jealousy, and Kaizen reacts differently depending on its mood. By working through the fears and anxieties of your virtual companion, you can eventually find your way back to Earth—while unraveling the cryptic history of the ship and the 1980s society from which it emerged.

It's ok

Interesting game. I like the setting and the idea to use a computer to do everything. The graphic is ok sometimes even nice. The interface is not so good. Often you want to read something in the Overlay but have to reposition yourself until the background is dark enough to read the text. Controls are usable though unusual. Left click forward, right click backwards, in space right click stops the movement. This is to make the keyboard free for chatting with the AI. It works. Has performance issues on my GTX 970. The text recognition needs improvement. I say "Lift up" and the anwer is "you are already on the lowest level" and similar reactions. I'm not sure about the story. I think I missed a lot because I was unable to make the AI speak about a lot of things as she did not understand my questions. All over all I think the story is to short. I finished the game in about 3.5 hours and I consider myself a slow gamer.

Cool interface, unconvincing interaction

While the UNIX inspired AI is amusing for awhile, the dialog you'll have with him becomes quickly tiresome. Honestly, the conversations in the game HuniePop are far more convincing and entertaining than found here. As to the visuals, this game looks like a quick rip of No Man's Sky. The short length, about 2 hrs., makes this more a demo than a commercial release.

Forced to stop due to lack of air

I was excited by the premise of Event0. I loved how the game looked. I was intrigued by the mystery. I even enojyed dealing with the imprecise AI because it made sense, given the story, that the AI would not be perfect when handling questions. But then I got to the sequence where I had to do a lot of complicated tasks outside of the spaceship. This is difficult enough (controlling your flight is tricky and there's a lot of ground to cover), but it is made far too hard because there's limited oxygen in your spacesuit. So you have to do all this stuff before running out of air, which I failed to do. As far as I'm concerned there's zero reason to include the oxygen meter because it's an arbitrary challenge attached to a game that I doubt anyone picked up because they wanted to be challenged. I wanted to finish the story but now I can't. I am disappointed I won't see the end of Event0 because of a random timer put into a narrative experience.

Really Cool Ideas, but...

I was first turned on to this game by Game Maker's Toolkit and I wanted to experience it for myself. My single biggest complaint with the game is that it is far too short. My second biggest complaint with the game is that it is far too linear to justify its shortness. It would be ok if the game were short, but there were many branching paths to justify multiple play-throughs. This game, however, is less of a true game and more of an interactive story with some rudimentary puzzles sprinkled in. There are very few total puzzles and in some cases they're more tedious than anything. The ending is... flat. The story builds up to something pretty interesting and the final delivery of what actually happened is told with a matter-of-factness that lacks impact. This is an absolutely great idea - on paper, but this feels more like a prototype of a game than a game in itself.

Expected a lot more

Bought because of hype created and some other references. The boasted AI is a bit smarter than ICQ bots of the previous decade. From the puzzle point of view it is quiet trivial. Very short gameplay. Wouldn't buy if I knew what to expect. Especially for $12 which it is sold for on Steam.
