Description
Europa Universalis III Complete includes the original Europa Universalis III as well as the expansions In Nomine and Napoleon's Ambition

Europa Universalis III delves deeply into the areas of exploration, trade, warfare and diplomacy. This epic strategy game lets players take control of a nation and guide it through the ages to become a great global empire. Unparalleled in its depth and historical accuracy, Europa Universalis III gives the player unprecedented freedom in how they choose to rule their nation from an impressive choice of over 250 historically accurate countries.

In Nomine includes the following features:
- New Missions: Countries will now have specific missions tied to actual historical events which players may complete for bonuses. Players are not required to complete these missions; however, these features will give players who want defined goals a more structured path.
- New Decision System: World leaders will now have a better overview of the decisions needed to shape the future of their country. They will also have expanded control over the future of their countries on both the provincial and national level.
- Rebels with a Cause: Rebels with specific goals and abilities will rise to challenge players every step of the way. These 'rebels with a cause' will all have their own unique grievances and can be negotiated with or completely eradicated, at the player's discretion.
- Religious Tolerance: Religious tolerance now depends on the ideas and decisions taken by world leaders, adding a new layer of strategy. Political and religious dissidents can be handled in a number of effective ways, from excommunicating wayward rulers to organizing crusades.

Features included in Napoleon's Ambition:
- Expanded Timeline: The expanded timeline includes new content such as new leaders, rulers, advisor wars, countries and national ideas as well as dozens of new units for more tactical choices.
-Historical Options: With hundreds of new events, players will be able to see their rulers, leaders and advisors appear on accurate historical dates.
- Improved Interface: The new trading mode for the map displays all goods that will be produced in each respective province, including the value of the goods. This means the ledger will have more pages, including information about colonies and leaders.
- Enhanced Trading System: The new trading system will let players to automatically send merchants to specific trading centers. Players can choose the trading centers they most want to focus on, and the game will automatically take care of the necessary trading actions. This system also includes a new rule for overseas trade where players will have to use war or diplomacy to give merchants access markets

WARNING: Not actually complete

Be warned that, despite the name, this is NOT the complete version of EU3. This package includes the expansions Napoleon's Ambition (2007) and In Nomine (2008), but does NOT include the expansions Heir to the Throne (2009) and Divine Wind (2010). For those, you apparently need to buy what's termed the "Europa Universalis III: Collection Upgrade" package on this site IN ADDITION TO buying this package. Alternatively, you could wait to see whether the ACTUALLY-complete "EU3: Chronicles" package will be added to this site.

NOT complete!

How does Paradox keep getting away with this? This is NOT the complete version of EU3, that would be EU3 Chronicles. I get that it was called complete at the time but it is completely unacceptable that this version is still being sold, years after chronicles was released, still under this very misleading title. Don't you just love having to purchase an additional DLC collection after having just spent money on a 'Complete' Edition? Thanks Johan!

The "Complete" issue

This sure is one of the most impressive Grand Strategy Games out on the market. I guess I don't have to go into details, the game has quite a reputation on its own. Regarding the "Complete" or incomplete issue I would like to add: the package offered here is what generally was sold some years ago as the “Complete Edition” after release of two Expansions when the game had reached a status the developers considered complete at that time. Nevertheless due to popular demand they added two more Expansions and kept refining and polishing the game for even more time than usual in a short term focus market like video games. I really respect that effort! And I really don’t see company greed at work here but rather above average customer dedication. However to avoid confusion the term “Complete” was given to and stuck with the base game plus the first two Expansions. “Chronicles” is the final package containing all four Expansions after the company really stopped working on EU3 and started EU4. I think as long as people are aware what they are buying and getting, this should be OK for most people. And I think the description here at GOG is clear enough about that issue so everyone going through the product description with a bit of care should not miss that information. If I am totally honest I am quite happy the game is offered here in two separate portions. Usually when a games get more complex with added content (especially when it’s a strategy game) it does not make it easier but harder to get into it. Also with added content and complexity there usually comes added buggy-ness and more is not always and automatically better. Thus I really like the option to go back and be able to see and compare the final game with some of its earlier and more “Vanilla” incarnations. So although I already own a disk based EU3 “Chronicles” I am quite happy that the original “Complete” version (which is near impossible to get nowadays) was offered here – instantly bought it.

Poor UI, poor customer support setup

This is the first Paradox game I ever bought. The user interface is not great given the native resolution of my monitor. Although there is no in-game setting for UI scaling or text-size adjustment, the Paradox forums refer to mods and modding instructions that allow you to change the text size and/or mod the interface. However, when you try to access those specific forum threads, it locks you out, saying you must be logged in. So, I went and registered an account over there and confirmed my email, but then when I revisited the page I was trying to access, Paradox now tells me I must link my Paradox account with my Steam account for the "privilege" of viewing mod instructions for an issue that should be addressed within the game in the first place. Apparently Paradox has no use for Good Old Games customers.

Very addictive

I got this not-so-complete-edition together with the missing dlc-pack so my review covers Europa Universalis 3 together with all available expansions. I'm a passionate strategy gamer but for some reasons (DRM being one of them) I never picked up a Paradox game before this one. I have to say the learning curve was very steep due to the sheer complexity and the the all but self-explanatory interface... But once I managed to understand most of the important mechanics, I founf myself in every strategy gamers heaven. Beeing able to play almost any historical country starting at any historical date between 1400 und 1800 creates endless replayability. The economic system is detailed and the political choices are vast. There better games though if you just want a detailed war simulation as battles are fought on a rather abstract level. Other than the poor accessability there are only minor points of complaint: random events often seem a bit harsh to me and I'd love to have some predefined victory conditions. But even without EU3 is a great and very addictive game for experienced gamers.
