A lot of reviews here are fairly old, and it seems the game has improved since they were written. Endzone is very similar to Banished, with a lot of familiar mechanics. There's a lot of resource management to do, and I've found myself restarting several times when I realise something I did early on ended up being completely wrong.
Occasionally you'll get a request from the population to produce a number of resources, usually resulting in a happiness or stock increase. There's also a research element which I've not reached yet where you develop new buildings and upgrades to existing ones.
My only gripe is the Prosperity DLC - it's just decorative items, and so is pretty pricey for what it is. If you weant it, don't pay full price IMO.
On the whole, if you like(d) Banished, you're going to like this too.
This game is entertaining for a little. It is almost a carbon copy of other city builders. It is enthralling for the first few turns where starvation lurks in every shadow and your people are dying one moment and flourishing the next, only to be struck back down by a sandstorm or radiated rain. Once you understand the mechanics and get a good enough infrastructure, it's boring.
Also, our future is apparently populated by whiny idiots. The intro is HORRIBLE with an angry child yelling at her "ancestors" (us) for ruining the Earth with nuclear... not war but power plants! The "community" in the game continues to moan because they want things now that require you to research those things but need to go on excursions to find the science to do the research, which is randomly generated. Needless to say, you will not complete the "mission" in time and your people will get sad, refuse to work because they are sad, then "task" you with stockpiling all the things they would have had if they had been working. On easy difficulty, this is just annoying. On medium, it will end you game and they will all die sad, pathetic, emo deaths.
Overall, you are safe to give this game a pass.
This game is clearly inspired by "Banished", as it shares it's basic game mechanics. If you liked Banished, you'll feel right at home. Endzone's post-apocalypse setting really sets it apart though and makes it a rather unique city builder/survival strategy game.
For those of you who thought that Banish got quite dull rather quickly, this game introduces some more mechanics that'll keep you busy and entertained for longer. You'll have to deal with radiation and humidity, be prepared for droughts and sandstorms, keep your settlers happy and healthy as your settlement slowly grows.
As the game is still in development, a lot of things have yet to be introduced, like expeditions or scenarios. It'll surely receive a great deal of bug fixes and overall improvements during development. So far it's fairly solid, totally playable and definitely challenging. I'll gladly support the developers, even for this price, which is imho not too high at all. Banished is just a little cheaper, where Endzone already brings more mechanics (and again, more to come as it not yet finished).
Overall I found the game interesting and fun.
Unfortunatelly once your settlement reaches a high enough population (in my case this was around 1500-1600 settlers) the game becomes unplayable due to massive FPS drops and "pauses" every 10-20 seconds. It doesn't matter which graphics settings, since it seems the game uses only one CPU core for all animation calculations, and there's a lot going on n a settlement of that size.
Its a city builder. Not the best, not the worst. If you like city builders you will probably like this. I liked it. Its got minor problems. The difficlty jump between Easy and Normal is huge. Easy is too easy, Normal is too hard. I can't imagine the settings above Normal. I tried Normal and failed. I went back to Easy and enjoyed it.
