Enderal: Forgotten Stories is a total conversion for TES V: Skyrim: a game modification that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.
Enderal is free and can be played by anyone owning a legal copy of TES V: Skyrim. (No DLCs are necessary.) It is developed non-commercially by SureAI, the team behind the renowned Oblivion mod "Nehrim: At Fate´s Edge" (and various other projects).
Feature List
An open world with its own lore and hand-crafted, detailed and diverse landscapes – explore deserts, heathlands, forests, jungles, mountains, and more.
An unconventional story with believable characters and psychological undercurrents.
German and English voice acting by professional voice over artists.
Multi-faceted, believable characters with own ambitions and motivations.
Overhauled gameplay with classes, experience points, survival mechanics and challenging combat.
An overhauled skill system with classes and new special abilities.
A housing system allowing the player to design their own homes.
30 to 125 hours of expected playtime.
Added in Forgotten Stories
Two "crafting classes" that utilize alchemy and enchanting for combat – use potions to shapeshift into a werewolf as the Lycantrope, use enchanting to craft spirit companions as the Phasmalist.
Improved performance and stability for a smooth experience.
Twelve new sidequests and two non-linear guild questlines: Work your way up the Golden Sickle, Enderal's merchants guild and infiltrate the ranks of the Rhalâta, the enigmatic cult ruling the Undercity.
Reworked and improved crafting, spells, and much more.

Best "Mod" I've ever played. One of the best games I've ever played. Enderal may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you are looking for a game with satisfying gameplay customisation, well-written characters or a world that just makes you want to explore those pretty environments just a bit further, you're in the right place here. Story is pretty linear, but it is used for the strenghts of linear gameplay, and it is rewarding to investigate beyond it's basic scope.
I own Enderal on Steam and have yet to finish my first full playthrough, but that's clocked in at about +100 hours.
Enderal and is not Skyrim. Enderal is it's own game, and, in my opinion, that game gives Skyrim a run for it's money if not blows it out of the water.
To elaborate on why I give this four stars instead of five: Despite it having several patches and being an entirely different game, Enderal does contain some of the jank that Skyrim has. Combat is slightly better through some of the tweaks and additions made by SureAI, but it's still Skyrim combat. There's also a few "meh" writing moments in the main story and side quests. Sometimes NPC and player dialogue leave a bit to be desired. Voice acting is fine for the most part, but many of the secondary characters in the story are solid. Some creature/enemy models/meshes are also "meh" and you feel compelled to "de-Skyrim-ify" them with additional mods. It's also a shame regarding the limited scope of the game, as there's moments where it feels like opportunities were missed out on for more content.
Aside from those few things, Enderal is a vastly better experience than Skyrim. The progression system and skill trees feel, while still tied to Skyrim's boring combat and crafting systems, much more thought out. Exploration and progression are actually tied together. Your character can eventually gain a class, which is incredibly refreshing that you can actually somewhat role play. While leveled areas in the world might seem odd to the casual Skyrim player, they make sense in the interesting world SureAI created. Magic, while still OP, actually has a bit more to it gameplay and lore-wise compared to Skyrim.
In short, Enderal is a good game, not a good mod. The most disappointing thing about this game is that there's an end, and you wish the end wouldn't come as quickly as you'd like, so you will likely find yourself really trying to squeeze out 80-100 hours to delay the end and explore the world.
Though offered for free I had to buy TES Skyrim SE. Well worth it. I have played through Skyrim 4 times and the start is slow and a re learning curve I have 25 hrs in and a ton of map and game left. Thank you mod community for a very nice game.
