Still rocks my socks after 10 years
I use to play this game many many years ago. It was in fact my first pc game I had ever played, and I loved it. It may not have been perfect there are many things looking abck that I wish the devs would have done, like displaying the garrision bonus for settelments and the range of said mechanic. But for its time the graphics were amazing, the interface was exelent andi very intuitive (a must have for any rts). The sound track was good but as a kid I was never concerned with such things. This game has held up against all odds and in the wake of 2 sequals that just sucked. Which leads me to the negative thing I have to say about this game, Curerntly in the video game industry devs are capatilizing on remasters and remakes. But sierra has yet to cash in on this gold mine. Pun totaly intended. I would be happy with and pay 60 for an HD remaster. You wouldnt even need to add in MP the community has been going strong with out gamespy anyway. 5/5 Best RTS to ever grace the PC.

Bought it because of nostalgia...
and now I regret it. The zoom is very close, the minimap is low-res. The campaign difficulty is inconsistent and in skirmish, the AI cheats so hard it's simply not fun. By the time you have two settlements and begin to gather resources, the AI already has three barracks, two siege factories, two more military factories and a mill and starts to build units - including units that cost gold, which you dont start with. And once you built your first two military buildings, the AI already sends multiple units to your base. On easy difficulty.

Great game gone to waste.
Don't waste your money. This game used to be fun and I still love it but since windows 7 the graphics are so bad the game is unusable and no matter what I looked up nothing could fix it. Such a shame.

When speaking of overreaching...
Empire earth: gold edition is probably one of the most ambitious (for its time) project that truly tries to give a complete experience on human warfare (at least in its gameplay, since the story, although faithful historically, is narrated in a way that's almost comical). Or at the very least, that was the idea. Unfortunately, what came out of that idea is a mediocre RPG with a bad AI and confusing overlays. That doesn't mean the game is bad... it has some good qualities, but not enough. So, yup. You can play it and found joy in it, if you look past its failings.
