ELEX is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy universe that puts players into a huge seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action.
In ELEX, you join the war over a powerful resource that gives people great magic-like powers but turns them into indifferent cold creatures. You decide if emotions and humaneness or cold synthetic logic will rule the world of Magalan.
Completely seamless Open World experience without borders and loading zones for the ultimate exploration experience
Vertical Exploration: Use the jetpack to reach any place in the game world
Simulated game world where everything reacts to the players actions and provides for an authentic atmosphere
Highly interconnected quest system that support true player choices
Tactical and challenging combat system for close and ranged combat
Universe set in a post apocalyptic science fantasy universe that combines the most interesting aspects of all genres
Immagine if 2100's earth got hit by a comet / meteor and the fallout that occurs after. Now imagine that midevil sword play, and the like also comes back along with magic. That's Elex.
Summary: one-button combat against very strong hideous enemies that suddenly jump at you.
Overall story is not terrible, but writing is very bad! Dialogue lines are incoherent, often you have to guess what they suppose to mean. There are are major consequences to choices you make, but there is no telling from the dialogue what would be the outcome of these choices. Hundreds of repetitive copy/paste fetch quests.
But main problem is the control system.. It is very reasonable to shoot a bow at a charging enemy, then draw a sword.. Except for you can not draw a sword or even dodge until bow animation would play through. Same with combos. So instead it is best to draw a sword and just keep swinging it in fast attacks.
Contrast is really bad too, if you are in a lit area you can not see into adjacent shaded area as it is completely black, and if you are in a shadow (or indoors) you can not see into lit areas (or outside through a doorway).
Instead game capitalises on hideous creatures that suddenly jump at you. Even minor foes can take our a large chunk of your health with single hit.
You know whatsup. Janky? No, But it takes some work without being overly complicated. it;s old school with quest's like Morrowind, so listen to whatNPC's say to you etc... Save often. I love it!
This game mixes sci-fi and magic, in an environment that is sometimes reminiscent of the stalker universe, or maybe the fallout universe. If feels very unique. The story is non-linear. You can make some big decisions that affect the story and the development of the character. But then, there are also some small decisions, notes... and then you get some small 'cosmetic' mention to these in a dialog, or somewhere else. I like these details a lot, I keep finding surprises here and there. This makes the world feel very alive.
