Description

Eastward is a beautifully detailed and charming adventure game, from Shanghai-based indie developers, Pixpil.

In the near-future, society is starting to collapse, and the human population is at an all-time low. A deadly toxic presence has spread across the land, destroying and devouring everything in its path.

Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons…

Escape the tyrannical clutches of Sandfill’s subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above! Discover beautiful yet bizarre settlements and make new friends as you travel across the world by rail.

Contains adult humour and some mature themes.

Game Features

Discover the wonderfully weird world of Eastward. Climb aboard the cross-country railway which spans this decaying continent, stopping off to explore its bustling towns, curious campsites and shady forests.

Fend off peculiar monsters and ferocious bosses with John’s weapon of choice - be it a flamethrower, cog-shooter or your trusty ol’ frying pan. Feeling merciful? Try temporarily stunning them with Sam’s kinetic blast.

Switch between John and Sam to solve environmental puzzles and fight your way through formidable dungeons. Separate the duo to unlock hidden paths or stick together as you traverse a perilous landscape.

Get to know a quirky cast of characters with oodles of personality! Immerse yourself in a heartwarming story-driven adventure, packed with fun and wacky humour.

Create deliciously authentic Eastwardian cuisine using (mostly) fresh, organic ingredients from toxic forests, potcrab farms and abandoned malls. These delicacies will grant health bonuses, power boosts and secret boons.

Bop along to a wonderfully upbeat soundtrack composed by Joel Corelitz(Death Stranding, Hohokum, The Unfinished Swan), with sound design from Irish studio, Hyperduck Soundworks (Dust: An Elysian Tail, Kingdom Rush)

Not for me, but hear me out *spoilers*

I love the game dont get me wrong, but being spoiled by good indie games, i cant recommend this UNLESS you're ok with these issues: Note:I own the Nintendo Switch version, @!#$ nintendo doesnt have a review section. I had a handful of random game errors. But cant review that since it wasnt the PC version. Pros: -Beautiful art -Good pixelated animations -A good mix of zelda botw, Metro exodus, amongst other good games. -Made by gamer themselves. -New game plus (ish). you're able to select which chapter you left uncompleted, with all hearts and money you had, but no weapong upgrades. Cons: -The game is linear, i hate linear games, very little exploration allowed. There was a particular area in the second map i missed because there wasnt anything indicating you wont be able to go back if you go the other way. I was super annoyed i couldnt go back. -Too much dialogue! this game is literally 65% dialogue and 35% game. -Cannot skip dialogues!! why didnt they think of alllowing us to skip it!? -This game is easy. Hardly challenging. Bosses are a joke and puzzles are painfully obvius. -Pan upgrade are meaningless since you cant go back to beat weaker monsters and while advancing in the game the monsters get increasingly resistant. All throughout the game you kill mobs with 1-6 hits. -Out of all the equipment, only the pan and shotgun are worth it. Pan because its infinite and shotgun because it does the most damage. Flame and saw thrower are garbage and only useful to advance in the game. -Cooking with good results only done with luck. I hate the slot machine thing that you need to get 3 of the same thing for a good food result. This should be different, like the better the quality of the food, the better the result. But they made it by luck. -Mini game inside the game is boring (to me at least) also linear because you cannot grind to lv up because you have 7 days to have a chance to beat the last boss. You have to make a run for it to find good companions.

One of my favorite games!

No game has ever charmed me so much with its graphics. I'm very pleased with the developers' love for details: the little animations and jokes in the dialogues. All the characters feel alive, and the difficulty curve is perfectly balanced: I didn't even notice how the game taught me how to defeat difficult enemies. Wonderful experience, looking forward to more releases

Wonderful

*Note* Steam edition, not GOG Eastward is a beautiful, fun, and captivating adventure that reminds me of the pixelated games of the Gameboy Era. The characters are memorable, the gameplay is smooth and creative, but more than anything, the game is eye candy. Every location is in stunning detail. You'll visit underground towns like the City of Ember, massive forest settlements, a post-apocalyptic Chinatown, and more as you follow a young girl with amazing powers and her rugged adopted father that reminds one of Joel from The Last of US. The story is very unique and feels like a breath of fresh air when compared to the constant shooters and battle royals that we see these days. My one and only complaint is that the game is designed to be played with a controller. Using mouse and keyboard simply doesn't work as it should. This was an easy fix as I just plug my Playstation controller into my PC, but if you don't have one you simply will not be able to play it well.
