Must have!

If you like turn based strategy games this is a must have. Very, very detailed in the things you can do and the amount of story based detail they have put into the game makes the game world seem really alive. Runs awesome on my 3 year old HP laptop so if great for those of you TBS gamers who travel. Can't tell you how many "it's midnight...I'll play just one more turn...Oh my god it's 5 am!" nights I've had with this game. Truly a gem!

A beautiful gem

Game is awesome, but for people that are into strategy and ofcourse turn based battles. I was thrilled by the story, the original places in game etc... Yeah it is very hard, it is unforgiving, there is no place for a peacemaker, you need to make an experienced army, and expand very very fast.

HoMAM where units level

Turn based strategy with many interesting features. Your units level as well as your hero. Even at max hero level, some encounters are no joke. System of progression where conquering shards of reality floating in void gives you better buildings is satisfying. All in all, one of the best games for its price.

Linux

I've run into a few games that work better on linux for me than in windows, so I thought I'd share my successes. I bought this two days ago, and have lost several hours playing it already. A melange of different game mechanics which haven't been brought together recently, executed very well. A strategy gamer's nostalgic dream. There are engaging strategic and tactical choices that need to be made. You are constantly doing both. Combat feels a lot like a cross between HOMM and Disciples. There is a full grid, but there are no stacks, just individual units which improve over time. The world map is reminiscent of mixture of Lords of the Realm 2 and Civ: you need to conquer each piece of the map before you can develop its resources. The strategic map feels more like a board game than a open world with sporadic encounters. Enemy armies can't sneak up on you on an enormous map (age of wonders 2), and each move seems weighted with purpose. A diamond in the rough for any strategy gamer looking for richly satisfying gameplay. Even better, it works flawlessly on linux through wine. Apparently it also runs well on a mac through wine. So, if you've been looking for a new strategy game, you can get this one running on your operating system of choice. Except maybe not. I haven't been able to get this run on my windows partition. So, maybe not your operating system of choice, but still works well on linux.

A Unique and Unforgettable Game.

When I first got this game (based on all the awesome revues, off course) I was a little put off by the absence of animation. DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU! In fact I would go as far as to say that it does not need any, because of the art style and the overall nature of the game. I have played "Masters of the Broken World" and have to say that Genesis takes the win in my book. It has a cleaner, more straightforward interface, and honestly, I like the art style of the original much more, it has that cozy quality vintage 2d look to it. Honestly describing this game in all its splendor will take too long, just play it! But do be warned, it will suck you in for hours upon hours, I've been playing this everywhere I go: at work, in class, at home, even in my sleep (I guess thats how I know when I had a little too much of it LOL :).
