Half-good zombie game ruined by parkour

If only this game had normal vertically - a strategically placed ladder reachable over a short gap there, a cable walk here, and the occasional jump onto soft landing or rare timed leap onto a moving object. And not as the main mode but simply a little here and there for neat immersion, well integrated into set design to help escape a horde if you don't fancy berserker mode. But no, this game is all about parkour - superhuman spiderman parkour. Even without the web (sorry, I mean zip line) the rooftop long leaps, wall climbs and vertical jumps are plain unrealistically over the top, and overused, and work as a sort of forced altrernative game mechanic to fast-travel. Some bozo said hey, how can we make our bog-standard zombie game different? Deeper story and more world building decisions & consequences? Nah, bigger leaps man, look at me jump 100ft gap with these upgrades! Or look cool or have better weapons with these DLC (at least you don't have to pay extra for them in this edition). And forcing you out at night just for the sake of stressful gameplay when anyone with half a brain cell would stay indoors until daybreak is plain silly, gimmicky and annoying. Such a shame.

Judging by the marketing...

122 $ price, and you have only 4 static pictures to sell it? Are you serious?

This has DRM

The store page says "DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play," but it's a lie. Multiplayer will not work unless you use GOG Galaxy. Even LAN play is locked behind it. 👎

Boring yet stressful

The game feels disjointed. Whereas in the daytime you can deal with the zombies, explore and have fun. When it turns to night, you are essentially a hopeless hamster scurring around whilst being chased down by lions. Slight Spoiler There are these enemies that show up at night who are so absurdly OP that you must now play the game as a stealth game. I tried to fight one of these creatures 1v1. I had a huge piece of rebar as a weapon. Very slow weapon but high damage, thought it would do the job... Nope, hit the thing about 6 times and it was not even phased. Then 2 more of his pals showed up! This mechanic would work better if you could simply avoid leaving your safehouse at night. But the storyline makes you go out at night. I think the game must intend to give you a heart attack or something. Because these night stalkers (or whatever they are called) introduce some of the most stressful gameplay I have ever experienced in a game. And unless you have mastered the parkour aspect of the game and know the map well enough to efficiently get to where you're going, you're brown bread. How about a gun? I never managed to find a gun in this game. Maybe you can kill them easier with one. But it seems like there is a heavy emphasis on melee weapons, like I said, I never even found one single gun. The setting of the game was something that I found interesting. But my goodness does it get old fast. You will see the exact same re-used assets time after time. The combination of hopeless hamster vs lion gameplay, and the repetitive environment. I couldn't play the game any longer. Whilst trying to parkour my way on the rootops I came across the exact same building 3 or 4 times in a row. And when I say the same building. I mean it had the same dead body leaning in the centre of the far wall. It was the exact same asset used over and over again. That said the graphics are good and the gamepay is mechanically sound. There's a good game in there somewhere.
