Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Positive aspects: funny, easy to play, good storyline, NYC very well detailed.
Negative aspects?
Somo controls are stupid, Few cars.
A big city, but with almost nothing to do on ti, after ending the game.
But i must say: it's worth a buy!
Great game if you like driving fast, trying to loose the cops, and compleating your missions in an urban enviroment. Similar to GTA San Andres, but the cops are smarter. You have to behave around them or else you will have to loose them which isn't so easy. Open world in the sense that you can take missions around the city that don't follow the story line. Everything runs smooth on my modern system in windows 10 at max settings. I've had no crashes or lockups. I didn't have to reset compatability on the executable file. Graphics are good for 2007. Voice acting is good. Music is good if you like retro (I've put in hours and I still hear new songs on the radio).
There is gun play involved. A bit tricky, but after I reconfigured my controls I didn't have a problem.
If I was to have a negative it would be the lack of in game documentation. You have to learn on the fly. For example, street racing. You don't know where to go. You can check the map but it doesn't really tell you what that red dot means, and you have to check it while your racing. Still once you figure it out it's alot of fun. Worth the price, especially if it's on sale.
To play this game in modern standards, you are required to use the MegaFix Pack that is provided on the PCGamingWiki. Also, use the Sergey P./ThirteenAG Widescreen Fix. After you applied those patch. then you are good to go!
If you experience crashes when launching the game through the GOG Galaxy launcher, disabled Cloud Saves first, then enable it later on.
For controller users, the game has a native XInput support. So you are good to go.
The only thing that is bad about this game is the police AI, which would often comes after you real hard and it gets annoying. It's Immersive sure. But it's bad immersive. Maybe some people like it. Others like me, not so much. The Reflections Team trying to save the IP with this game after ATARI screwed them over with Driv3r. So, I'm not surprised.
I've put way too much time into various versions of Driver: Parallel Lines, and I'd have to say in this case the PC version is probably the best. It's missing some of the truly cinematic feel of DRIV3R's missions, but on the other hand, this game is way more playable and less buggy. It does nothing out of the ordinary, but we also don't get games like this any more, so it's nostalgic to go back to. And the car physics are good!
